Subject: Dodge Coverage in Truck Trend
IP: Logged

Message:
The latest issue has a feature story on the new Ram SRT-10 with the Viper V-10 if anyone is interested. It also has a coaprison test between the Dakota CC R/T, Ford SVT F-150 Lightning and the Toyota Tacoma S-Runner TRD. Funny thing is you would figure they compare apples to apples but they used the CC R/T and Tacoma but the RC Ford. In a nut shell, the Ford fared the best. They knocked Toyota for fit and finish and ride quality and knocked the R/T for power to the rear wheels. It was pretty disappointing. Here are the results.
Max HP/RPM Max Torq/RPM HP/Torq@crank
Dak 154.7/4300 200.3/3700 250/335
SVT 303.4/5200 350.1/3700 380/450
Toy 180.8/5100 218.5/2200 251/275

Overall Ratings
Dodge Ford Toyota
Appearance 5 9 8
Engine 7 10 9
Tranny 6 7 8
Ride 6 8 4
Handling 8 7 8
Track Perform 8 8 9
Fit/Finish 7 8 6
Gadgets/Goodies 6 8 7
Interior Comfort 8 8 6

Just to make sure nobody gets confused, the Ford Lightning is only available in the RC configuration. Of course the Dakota R/T is available in RC or CC which made the times slower with the CC, but that 154hp mark for rwhp is complete bull. I'm not sure if there is an RC S-Runner available.

yeah i saw that.... and when i saw the 154 wrhp i knew they were full of it... kinda reminded me of when they did a sport truck test with the RT, toyota (non s/c), extreme, nissan.... the RT killed all the other ones in everything except breaking (because that was the only one that they didnt get 4 wheel anti lock).. well of course they picked the toyota because of gas mileage.... GAS MILEAGE!!!! you dont get no steeenkin V8 for gas mileage!!!!

the most common rwhp i have seen for the RT is 195 to 210.... a little difference... a V6 could support 150 rwhp with no mods

dont knock the N/A s-runners, will hang with a
stock RT easy....no, they dont make the Toyo's
in a reg cab, in fact, the stopped producing the
S-runners after only 1 year. my brothers is
suprecharged with 7# boost right now, and he
is gonna get the 11# pully pretty soon, it's not
as fast as I thought it would be, but, for a light
truck, its got way too much power....broke the
lowering blocks in half last week at the track ; )

his truck runs a best of 9.23 (1/8th) with an
open rear end, and street tires. (not the best
set up when equipped with a super charger,
and 5 speed.)

any truck shoot out is gonna be unfair, but it's
nice to know how another truck is gonna run if
it pulls up beside you on the street.

So why would Truck Trend lie about the rwhp numbers for the R/T? Maybe the R/T isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Gary trust me, either it's a typo or they are full of it. The v-6 gets almost 154 to the rear wheels. From the way they put it the r/t loses over 100 horses from the motor to the rear. There have been way too many dynos done for that to wash out.

OPINIONS ARE LIKE....WELL, YOU KNOW THE REST!!

It could be that Ford and Toyo gave the mag a better truck to test (namely a couple $1000 bills sticking out from the glove box) to trash the r/t.

what gets me is that they gave the R/T the lowest appearance rating! I'm sorry but even if all the other numbers are true (which I am skeptical) how does the best LOOKING truck in the bunch get the lowest rating? they must be biased against dodge. The S-Runner looks the worst of the 3.

I called Paxton (who did the dynoing) and gave the lady in the dyno room a piece of my mind about the R/T dyno numbers. She stays by her claim of 154 RWHP! I explained to her that it would not be right that a 154 hp dak R/T CC would run a 15.5! I just do not get it, wait mabey I do, there is a wad of $100's in the glove box.

yeah, at 154 hp paxton must claim a major increase in HP to add there supercharger. I bet it was some evil ploy to get dodge owners to buy superchargers from paxton!

New Contest!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
Hmmmm, I think we should have a contest to figure out how to dyno an R/T that low. That's probably the only way we'll figure out how they got that low of a number. My guess is that they left it in 2nd with the AC on and the clutch fan fully engaged after idling for 45 minutes while they tied it down. Either that or they pulled a couple of plug wires off the thing.....

Anyone else got any ideas on how they could get it that low?

i dont know duner.... but if they put it in second it would be a higher number.... probably didnt turn off the overdrive and did a 4th gear dyno at .69 ratio instead of 1.0...

when my truck was dynoed and the place screwed it up i still got 150 at the wheels NA... and that was the dyno think that my truck was a V8.... but i only have six cylinders... doh'

but i bet thats it..... 4th gear dyno..... dumb@sses

Dyno...
IP: Logged

Message:
One of the trips my truck made to the dyno - we tried it in 3rd gear (5-speed). The numbers came up to about a 175 hp number. It robs a bunch of power from things if the tranny isn't at 1:1 on the dyno. I'm thinking that it's time to get mine back on the dyno again.
