Message:
I have a 2002 with the tire handling grp. (16x8) it's also a 4x4. how much of a difference is the tire dia, from my stock 4x4 tires and the 17" R/T wheels?

If there is a difference, what tires would I be looking at to keep my speedo in line?

I can't stop pumping money into this thing LOL

Go to dakota-truck.net and use their tire size calculator. The Durango R/T is a 4x4, and they have 275-60R17 tires, if that helps. I have R/T wheels and 275/65R-17 tires on my 2000 4x4. They are slightly taller than stock.

Will 285/55/17 tires fit a 2002 4x4 without rubbing? the tire dia is a bit smaller than the factory but what about the width?

Thanks for the help

btw thanks Troy that was exactly what I was looking for.

According to tire rack ( www.tirerack.com) the stock size 4x4 tire is a 265/70/16 and is 30.6" tall and has a section width of 10.7 on an 8" wide wheel, the 17" R/T tire stock size is a 255/55/17 and is 28.1" tall and has a section width of 10.1 on an 8" wide wheel hope this helps

the 4x4 tire should be a 265/70/16 at least that's what mine has, and I didn't mean that the R/T wheel was 8" wide I was just stating the tread width if the tire was mounted on an 8" wide wheel. I think you add .5 to the width for every 1/2" increase in wheel width. So the 255/55/17 R/T tire on a 9" wide wheel should have a section width of 11.1"

Who makes a tire in that size that you asked about? the 285/55/17? I can't find anyone listing a tire in that size. So I take it you want to switch to the R/T rims? If so in a 17" tire if you want it to fit like stock you can do a 265/65/17 the diameter is 30.6 compared to 30.7 stock, and tread width is 10.8 compared to 11.0 on an 8" wide wheel, this size tire wouldn't even look different than what you have stock but you would be gaining the 17" wheel which would help reduce sidewall flex, good for the street but if you 4 wheel you would lose some flexibility. One last thing do the 2wd R/T's have the 6 lug wheels like the 4x4's?

(not being sarcastic) well sh!t before you showed me how wrong I was, I used a tire calculator to figure out same size as a 65 series. To answer your question, no I did not have a brand picked out.

all dakotas, durango's and I'm not sure about the old vipers but there all the same. (viper wheels are too wide for the dakota. (I'm referring to the lug pattern)
