Subject: busted worm gear

Any suggestions?
Sunroof motor has a worm gear(plastic)with busted teeth.
Would like to replace part but don't know who vendor was since I bought truck used and sunroof was something previous owner (unknown) put in aftermarket.
The motor has an ITT automotive sticker on it but searching the web using ITT auto does squat.
Motor is made in germany.

You could probably take it to a machine shop and have them make a metal gear, that way it'll be harder to strip. Something like that would probably be pretty cheep too.

Is there much left of the gear? If so, check www.mcmaster.com The have a few worm gears in cast iron and steel depending on the application. Depending on how the machineshop you were to take it to is set up and the size of the gear it could get expensive quick. Gears tend to be fairly pricey. If it does come down to getting a new one made I would look at delrin or some other industrial plastic. If it strips, replacing the gear maybe a whole lot cheaper that replacing a motor or whatever else might break once the gears have been beefed up. Just my oppinion though.
