Subject: The Shaker is finally installed!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
Well, after decorating the wall behind my couch for over 5 months (long story that basically boils down to me not wanting to subject new paint to Denver's winter weather.), I got my Shaker hood painted & installed!!

I went & picked up my Quad Cab from the paint shop Thursday afternoon, and spent today wrenching away.

After ripping out the factory air box, my buddy & I did plugs, wires, cap & rotor. And, as we had to splice in a new upper radiator hose (part of the kit...as it needs to be relocated), I went ahead & took that opportunity to install my 180 degree thermostat.

We then got busy mounting the new air box. Which, I can say, is a PAIN IN THE @$$!! Took us forever to get the front mounting bracket in place, and then even longer to get the actual lower part of the air box to sit right.

But in the end, we won! And here it is:

I need to get some more photos, and then I'll update my web page. Not sure whether or not I'll get to it this weekend. Although, I will try. But for now I'm DONE!!,

I'm also hot, tired, sun burned, dehydrated, and dirty....did I mention tired?!?

Nicely Done, Laddie!! You have earned every compliment extended.
Oh, am awaiting TB and M1 from Fastman. I'm going to have my QC dyno-ed before and after to see the relative difference between Stage 1 mods [cheap bolt-ons] and Stage 2 [more expensive goodies]. I'll pass it along when performed.
I appreciate the brake upgrade info, and will probably look to that area next.
Again, Beautiful Job!!!,...D

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for the compliments. As with many of you, I have been bitten by the bug, and cannot seem to stop myself! 8^)

Blizzard: I don't blame you. You're truck looked sharp with the Shaker on it!

Kevster: The scoop is painted a Dodge 2001 color that is similar to the Graphite...just a tad darker. Now that all is said & done, I kind of wish that I had went with a black, but it still looks sharp.

My Quad Cab has the 5.9L in it.

And, for the paint job....let's just say that I paid a lot, but they did a first rate job on it. Shot the hood & blended the fenders....and fixed some scuffs in the passenger fender flare (off-road incident involving a tree).

kennungesser: The fenders had to be tweaked to match up with the hood. And the shop I went to replaced the grill screws that came with the kit with some slightly longer ones. As time allows, I'll try and get another Shaker page up on my site...complete with what I ran into during the install. So, stay tuned!

Well, after running around a little this weekend, I can say that the PCM has definitely done its initial learn. It definitely pulls harder now...especially over 2500 RPMs.

And just when I was about to get a little disappointed in local drivers, I had an S-10 Crew Cab try and take me on the I225 on ramp this morning. As it was 5:00AM (no traffic), I decided to play. Much to his dismay & our obvious weight difference, I caught up with him & steadily pulled away.

bwahahahhaa!!!

God I love my Dak!!!

Terry & the folks at Pro-Finish/Pro-Glass live up in Indiana. One of them, don't remember if it is Terry or not, runs a Shaker hood with larger than production openings on it with no complaints/problems with rain or snow. You obviously don't want to park with the front end pointed into the wind in inclement weather, but aside from that they say your pretty safe.

As for any moisture that should get into the air box, there are a couple of drain holes to help get the water out of there.

And...if you think about it...look at the K&N FIPK kits for the Dak's & D's. There really isn't much keeping water out of the engine compartment when you are hurtling down the road, and they seem to do just fine.

I'm not saying that my filter is a little more exposed...just that I don't think there will be a problem.

Dr0p0ff/Sgt G: Yeah, I'm an ugly bastard!! I've been trying to catch up on my beauty sleep, but it just isn't working like it should. You got any suggestions (short of putting a bag over my head)?!?

I've had my shaker since March I haven't had any problems with snow or rain, or even at the car wash ---so don't worry about it. If you were expecting a blizzard or something you could open the hood and drape a towel over it and shut the hood the rubber boot will keep it in place.
