To anyone who has installed them, where is the best location, and any problems with rain shorting the pin to ground when the hood is closed.

I would not use a hood pin switch. i have installed alarms for a few years and pin switches will rust and cause false alarms. If you have remote start they can also disable the starter; not good if your stuck w/o tools. I would suggest getting a mercury switch. Any good alrm distributor shopuld be able to supply these. Also if you have an underhood light i would connect a trigger wire to it instead as it will funtion just as well as a pin switch. Still I prefer to use mercury switches for that type of application. My own vehicles are setup that way and i haven't had any trouble with it. Mers are also perfect for flat lid toppers and tool boxes.

just realized that i did not even answe your question.
anywhere that you can keep the pin from rusting will be fine. if you have the clearance try covering the bottom side of the pin with a cap of some sort and seal it to the body panal w/ silicone to keep the moisture out . Also try to find a small rubber boot for the top of the switch to keep moisture out. That's about all i could suggest if you want to use the pin switch. Any location will work fine that allows the oine to be grounded and make good contact w/ the hood. Just my $.02

Thanks for the mercury switch idea and the underhood light idea, I think I will go with the underhood light since it already has a mercury switch built in, I was skeptical of the pin switch for the reasons you stated, thanks again for your time and ideas, greatly appreciated.
