Subject: Air Intake and MPG

Message:
I hear that putting a cold air intake increases mpg? is that true? cause I would have thought that the more cold air that comes in, the more fuel your truck would use to mix it with, thus using more fuel and decreasing MPG, what is the right answer? thanks!

If it runs more efficient, and you can keep your foot off the gas(important part), then a descent intake will help MPG some.

I increased my mpg by about 1 mpg when I put on my 360airintakez. I'm going to probably build my own once i get my new throttle body. The 360 is nice but my imagination wants me to get creative. Intenseperformance.com has flanged air filters under the cone air filters section of different shapes and styles. I'm expecting better gains once I build my own using a quick cold air filter from intense.

I'll agree, if you can keep your foot off the go pedal, you'll get some mileage gain, maybe 1mpg on the highway. It works because colder intake air has higher density which equals higher potential energy. With higher potential energy on the intake side the engine can produce more power for the same amount of fuel it is given. More power means it has to work less hard for the same amount of fuel, that equals savings. When I keep my foot off the go pedal it has produced slightly more mpg on my 99 SLT-V6/Auto Dak.
