Subject: Rotating Your Tires

Message:
Those of you who rotated your own tires for the first time, or have watched a shop do it, what is the prefered method:

Us the spare (new, no miles) and if so, where do all 5 tires get swapped to, or

Don't use the spare (new, no miles) and if so, where do all 4 of the tires get swapped to?

Got 7500 miles on my 2001 QC/Sport+/T&H/AWD...at this point the tires look to be wearing pretty good after one full year of driving.

7500 miles isn't too early to swap, especially with AWD? (I can't tell between the front or rear tires, which show more wear)

Thanks in advance.

Why rotate yor tires? They are rotating all of the time while your driving!!:)..hahahaha

OK, sorry, actually when I did mine, I used the spare. There is a picture in the owners manual on how to do a 4 tire swap. Just put the spare in any location and follow the diagram from that point...Then you last tire left standing will be tha new spare. Just remember to mark down where the new tire went cause next time youll want to start from the next tire in the diagram so each tire gets equal amount of time as a spare..

Definitely says in the manual for a 4 tire swap.

I was thinking about leaving my spare out of the rotation, and using it next time around with 3 new ones, and the best as the new spare.

It's out of the sunlight, but with planned obselesnce, will the rubber hold up to use as a new tire with the newer set. I was thinking so.

Please only reply regarding this if you actually know, I too have an opinion.

i have 94 dakII and i only do a 4 tire rotate cause my spare is on a normal rim and the rest are chrome mag wheels so u know the routine to do a 5 tire rotate. my spare is just fine. i see no reason to rotate it at this time.

I am running the GOODYEAR Aqua Tread III and I
love them for everyday street tires and I can only
rotate them from front to back because they are
directional.

Some tire manufacturers are now recommending
keeping the same rotational direction when doing
a tire rotation. (see you tire owners manual)

And remember that it will always cost you less to
keep a dedicated spare.

5-tire rotation on mine. Always putting the spare on the right rear and rotating the rest as per the manual. I think the front left ends up as the spare. I have no problems with the Good Year Eagle LS's that came on mine as far as swapping sides.

I was able to get a free rim after a '64 Porsche Coupe decided to plow into my driver's side rear. Since then, I have been doing 5-tire rotations. It takes a tad longer, but it does wonders for overall tread life.

As Dave said above, spare goes to the passenger-side rear, and the driver's-side front becomes the spare.

I rotate my tires every other oil change or about 6,000-7,000 miles.
Pull the back ones to the front. Then put the front ones on the opposite corner.

keeps them wearing very evenly.

Hey Dave,
What kind of mileage are you getting out of your Eagle LS tires? I barley made it to 30,000 on mine (no hot rodding). They ride nice, and traction is good, but geez, 30,000? That sucks.

4 tire on mine, that way the tread depth is pretty much equal with the rear set, and front set.
