"But, if my son or daughter was making good money and decided he or she wanted to buy a BMW then thats different"

Haha, if I bought a BMW my dad would be expecting help on the mortgage -- good help at that!

Although, everytime I bring home any free stuff I aquire, like 7ft server racks, tables, couches, powersupplies, a large lot of old computers, etc, they threaten to throw me out, haha.

I plan on buying/building a small house in about two years.

I bought my beemer before my house. The beemer was more of a priority to me than a house.

I think you guys are nuts for judging someone on what they drive anyway. Who really gives a rats arse whether it's a Dakota or a BMW, as long as the dude is happy with the decision he's made. The 330 is pretty much the sheet in it's price class, and it's world class design and performance (for the price). OK, in short, no one here has the right to judge any one else here. Opinions are like sphincters on your posterior, and it looks like some people here have a big one. Let's just all shut up and drive.

Thanks Doug! That's exactly what I meant. You silly little boy, you have your priorities screwed up, "hey, i'll buy a nice car and make my parents support me". What an ASS! Instead of supporting your lazy butt maybe your parents could use that $$ elsewhere, ya ever think of anyone besides yourself??

It's a generational thing. I work hard for my family, not for me. The younger generation works hard (or if they work hard at all) it's for themself. Same thing I guess except what makes me happy is providing for and saving for my kids. That's not to say that the younger generation will never see it my way. IOW maybe it's an age thing. I dunno.

I do know that if you kept your truck, put that monthly payment into a good mutual fund instead, you could put a hellova lot more down on that house when you do need to get laid :) Everybody has their own opinions and reasons for doing things and even if I don't agree with it, I respect that right. Enjoy the car, it's a great ride.

(God, I sound like my old man already!)

Hey at least these guys are planning on moving out I know SSSOOO Many people that are making great money and living at home. But they're not pushing 25 they're pushing 45. I think that's sad. It's one thing if you move out and come back to take care of them but to have lived half your life with your parents is not healthy. And if some here are just staying at home a little longer so they don't have to live in a slum for a year or two I respect that. And for those who said "get a vette," viper etc. My insurance guy said if your uner 25 your insurance is gonna be $6K a year. That's some serious money. And the last of my opinion. I congratulate you on purchasing your own vehicle, I have a dozen or so people I know here in town who are highschool underclassman and have had their parents buy them vettes, Jeep Grands and deck them out too. I guess if you have it flaunt it and I don't have it.

What if we let our vehicle act as a replacement for a wife and kids if we don't have any?

xplicit. That's what I'm saying, it's your choice. My choice is to direct that to my family and others. For some it is not. That's ok, just pointing out a difference and wondering if it's generational or age. Don't get me wrong, I've got my toys, but not before a house, college savings for my kids, no debt, etc. etc. If kids save a little early on it makes a huge difference by retirement age. OTOH you need an outlet too, a hobby to enjoy. Vehicles are an expensive hobby though. Whatever, life is about choices and it's not all cut and dry. (any other cliche's I can drum up here?) lol.

Haha spending 30-40 g's on a car while parents are paying your sh!t. that is a down payment on a NICE house or a good chunk of something less nice. I would much rather live on my own and ride the bus (Or have a junker). Yah, Im spoiled as of now because I have a 4.0. I have a 99' R/T and only had to pay half of it. but the second I get out of college (Ill have scholarships so....) I will be off.

What if I spoke of the truck outside of the possessive form!

Subject Case
"I went to work in a truck"

Object Case
"That truck can burn civics all day long!"

Think of it, like.. another girlfriend! And you would buy things for your girlfriend to keep her happy right. She's happy = you'll be happy! Same thing for a truck ;)

I'm just being a smart ass, that's awesome that you're starting college savings! Hell, that's how I'm going to college right now. I do spend money on my girlfriend, parents, uncle-sam, and the red cross -- no one else to spend money on but me after that.

Ok i spend 37,000 when i am 21, finance 18,000 of it pay it off in a couple years i am 23. Ok then maybe think about buying a house and a wife and kids (who wants a wife and kids!) And for saving that stuff hell i saved 18,000 (with out money for my truck) in a year, and thats first year out of college. I think living at home is a smart thing to do. U dont have to blow all your money on things that go along with an apartment. And your parents are happy that u are home (well for some of u that is not the case)

My major is computer science and I will minor in business, but I just started you see, so these are just my reqs. remember. I havn't gotten to the real hard stuff yet! I'm also very ahead because I've been around it for soo long and I work where I use the techniques all day long. I have a 4.0 because I just applied myself. I went through middle, junior high, high school with about a 2.0 because I did nothing but the tests to pass myself. Now college is all but tests and research so I pass with very high grades!

Heh, I'm now doing and working like the kids I used to make fun of in high school, how 'bout that!
