I have a 2000 4.7 with a 5 speed. At about 37,000 miles (yes, right after warranty expired), my transmission started grinding from 1st to 2nd. This can be avoided if I let the rpms settle to about 1000, but it's a pain. I took it into Dodge today, they say it needs a complete overhaul. Cost - $1300. Anyone else have this problem? I love this truck, but I think it's ridiculous to have the tranny go out after only 37k.

I thought the tranny was covered through 60,000 miles. I'm gonna have to look over the warranty book. Take to a trusted mechanic. The NV3500 is a very common transmission and you'd probably be able to buy a new one for less than the dealer wants to over haul it for.

Anyone know for sure what the warranty is for a 5 speed tranny in a 2000 Dak? I think its 36k, but I'm not sure. I'd hate to overhaul or replace a tranny with only 50k on it, seems like it should be a defective unit to me.

Just look in your owners manual. Should be 60,000. Don't let them over haul it either. Make them replace it. Otherwise it will last up to that 60K and then crap out on you.

I checked the manual, looks like the warranty is only 3year/36k unless I'm missing something. What BS! Might as well trade it in, get a truck with a better warranty. Better than paying $1500!
