Subject: Bigger Tires = Mileage Conversion
IP: Logged

Message:
My truck had stock 235/75/15's and I upped them to 31 x 10.5 /15's. According to my GPS, the speedo is off by exactly 3 MPG...which is consistent with one of those side-of-the-road police speed displays. I was wondering if there was an easy conversion to figure out how much I am traveling when my odometer says i've traveled 1 mile. I know that I am actually traveling more than the odometer is telling me due to the larger tires, but does anybody know exactly how much or how to figure this out ? Thanks

sure.... divide the circumference of the new tires by the circumference of the old tires and multiply by 1 mile!!!!

hahaha yeah...what i meant was what are the exact circumferences of the tires? This may be a dumb question but I'm not quite sure what all the numbers mean. Thanks...sorry bout the confusion.

Which is...(couldn't leave you hangin!!!):}
97.4/90.7=1.074...assuming the diameters of your tires are exact. So when your odometer says you've gone 100 miles, you've actually gone approximately 107½ miles.

Thanks a lot for the info!!! Hey, is the only way to fix the odometer offset to take it to the dealer? I hear its pretty expensive...I figure if I don't, nobody will ever know....

7½% is not a big deal. If you drive the posted speed limit, you'll be less than 5 mph over.

My dealership hit me for half-an-hour of labor to flash my CAB & correct my speedo & ABS system when I went from the stock 235/75R15's to the 31x10.50's. I think it was about $38 out the door.

Halo3 why did they flash your ABS system? I also have the 31s. Just curious.

So........I wonder if I can flash mine to think it has 3.55 gears? My 305s are 8% larger in circumference than my 265s. If I could flash to 3.55s (10% less than 3.92s), my speedo and ABS should only be off 2%....Right????

LoneStarDak Check the following posts, I've posted info about the CAB flash in all of them:

http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/per/3873.html

bjlindsey Mathematically that sounds pretty sound, and I cannot really think of any reason that a dealer wouldn't do it.
