I think my clutch is shot! my partner was trying to back up a loaded hauling trailer--up a small hill--and all I could hear is loud and long grinding! That was about 3 weeks ago. I have lately felt the clutch "losing it's grip". I was just going to get a clutch kit from Napa and replace it. However, after reading some of the posts here, I am starting to think that I may still have trouble even after the R&R. Anything else, my people?

it's better to start with the easiest solution. Check the fluid level, pedal free play, any leaks from the master cylinder/slave cylinder, mechanical connections, etc. If everything looks OK, then you can take apart the transmission and clutch. Then you need to check the bearings, friction disc, pressure plate, gears, synchros, detent mechanisms and all other parts. Then when you find the worn parts, you can order the parts and replace them. It's probably a good idea to replace all the bearings and lightly worn parts, too, even though you don't really have to.

Hello,
I have a 1995 Dodge Dakota Sport 2.5L 4 cylinder manual transmission. My truck made a grinding noise and a slight pop while I was driving it in 4th gear. It now acts as if it's in neutral and when put into gear it just revs the engine and doesn't go anywhere. Can anyone help me with the solution to this problem?
Thank you in advance.

I just had my clutch replaced. When pulling out the transmission they discovered a bad input shaft bearing. Sent out to a transmission shop that replaced input shaft, mainshaft bearing, front & rear seals & said all else was good. Reinstalled with new clutch kit & cut fly wheel. When I got the truck back the clutch grabs about 1/2 inch off floor & can't start off without shaking. Any help would be appreciated. Dodge Dakota 2004 5 speed with about 100,000 miles.

Truck would not go in to gear. Mechanic replaced clutch with clutch kit and it was fine, several days later would not go in gear again. Replaced clutch cylinders with kit,ok for several days then would not go into gear again. In order to back out of garage engine must be off to put in gear. Any solutions????
