My Friend and I both have 2000 Quad cab 4x4's. The only difference between them is he has 3.92 gears and I have 3.55's(soon to be changed to 3.92s) and he has a rear sway bar and I don't (no clue as to why, the truck's are identical, even the window stickers.) My question is this, his truck sits 1 to 2 inches higher, especially in the rear. No one can tell me why this is including Dodge cust. assist. in M.I. None of the dealerships service dept's will look at it. Does anyone have any ideas??

Russ,
I didn't think to to check the gvwr. I'll do that this afternoon or this weekend. The tires and everything were the same from the factory. We both have 32x11.50's now. His are Dunlops, mine are BFG's. We thought about that but the tires measure to within about an 1/8 of an in. of each other. He is a little quicker off the line that me but not a whole lot. I have a little more on the top end than he does, but again not a lot. He does crawl a little better, especially since we went to the biger tires. Thats one reason I plan on changing my gears to the 3.92's. We both love the 4.7 though. Great engine!!

Russ,
I checked the gvwr on our trucks and they are the same. I'm wondering if maybe my suspension hsa settled a little. I've got about 800 to 1000 miles more on mine. Any Ideas? Anyone?

i doubt that your suspension settled a little. My guess is that there is somthing you missed that he didn't when you ordered the trucks. Or maybe he got it by accident. It sounds like he got the tire and handling package because that comes with sway bars. What you have to do is like what russ said check the gvwr but there is another sticker that is in the glove box. That is a more important sticker when it comes to finding out what you bought for example that is were you would find out if you got limited slip or what rear end you got or the size of the rear brakes. What you do is check the sticker. If your rear brakes are smaller then his he got the tire and handleing package and you didn't or maybe you will notice somthing else. But check the sticker if there is somthing diffrent thats were it would show up.

I have questioned these different ride hieghts and payloads before,it is not really clear what Dakotas offer! If you talk about Rams it is no problem there is all kinds of info available.I asked my dealer and he said they dont order in any Extra Payload packages as ride is rough and Dakota customers are not looking for HEAVY payload capacity.Ontario Hydro(huge company)has a lot of Dakotas in its fleet, they have P235 tires like mine but they are all loaded with tools and heavy gear and still have a ride hieght 1-2 inches higher than mine.So there has got to be some sort of package that is not well known even with dealers.

Well, we checked some more over the weekend and the trucks are the same. We even jacked them up and took a tape measure to the springs. They are the same. I think I just have bad leaf packs (his is exactly 1.75 in. higher in the rear and .5 in. in the front). They seem softer than my friends, but the tags and stampings are the same. Again I spoke with Chrysler corp office in MI. and they ran both vins and compared them and they are the same. Should not be any difference. Can't get any of the dealers to check it out so I think I'll just see how much new spring packs will cost me.

Well, to answer some questions, there is only 1 rear leaf spring setup for 4x4 Quad cab Daks and that is the heavy duty one. This from dodge. This means that the trucks should be pretty close in height. I think I have bad leaf springs. They cost $190 each so I think I'll fight with one of my local dealers until someone checks them out. I really hope Dodge doesn't have almost 2in. in the manufacturing tolerances.
