Be careful with shops "torquing" methods. I was at LeSchwab getting a flat repaired and I told the guy who was doing it specifically to do it at 100lbs -- like the rest. He tells me, "ok, I'll do that"

I go home to check them to find them from 85-125....idiots. Why can't a shop do something as simple as torque my wheels correctly when I tell them to and they even acknowledge me! A warning to all of you, always check the lugs and bolts etc after a shop has touched your vehicle. The worst is when they tighten the bolt to your oil pan as hard as they can!

Get a torque wrench. Set it, click...set it higher...click...higher...click...a lil higher...moves just a tad...there it is..a lil lower than that prolly...hehe.

What I do is start from like what I torque them at -- 100, so I go to like 105...if it clicks, I untighten and retorque them to what I want.

BTW, these wrenches do not come cheap, specially for doing 3/4" at 100+ pounds.

If you're going to be doing a lot of your own work on your vehicle they are a worthy investment in my opinion. And not those weird crappy ones wit the needle that moves. Get the clicking ones!

Check out Harbor Freight. They have the best prices I've seen for torque wrenches...and they carry a lifetime warranty.

If you do any of your own wrenching, it will be one of your wisest tool investments. As xplikt stated, most shops & what-not go by the PFT method (Pretty fricking tight). Had xplikt not checked his lugs, he could have driven his rig that way for several hundred, if not thousands, of miles. This could have led to premature warpage of the rotors and any number of other BAD things.

IMO, you should pick up both a 3/8" & a 1/2" torque wrench. If, however, you only have funding for one, I would go with the 1/2", as you'll use it a lot more.

LMAO!! You got that right, bjlindsey!! There is definitely something motivating about going into one of their stores...maybe it's the smell of lightly oiled hand tools!!

Oh yeah, and when you do get a torque wrench, do not put it away at 100 pounds from when you last used it. Take it back down to maybe 10% of it's max or so..don't leave it in storage torqued real high. Your tool will last and retain the proper torque a lot longer.

Nice to see that I can say "clicking ones" and people know what I am talking about, lol.

I bought me one. 1/2" drive clicks 150 ftlb. WeeeW
