Subject: HELP! Water pump "bypass hose" removal
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello again,
I had a post a couple days ago regarding my 98 5.2 4x4 water pump. It turns out the upper 4-6 inch long "bypass hose" is slit. HOW IN THE WORLD DO I GET TO THE UPPER CLAMP? ANY tricks out there. It runs right through/under the A/C compressor. It looks like the whole A/C and alternator brackets need to be removed? Can I just swing the assembly (ie remove the mounting brackets from the block and not the accessories from the brackets) off to the side a bit, WITH OUT disconnecting the A/C lines from the top of the compressor? Do I have to take everything off? Thanks in advance!!! Jim

If I remember correctly you do have to remove the alternator and whatever brackets are there. Be sure to A) disconnect your battery so you won't ground out the alternator feed b)drain your coolant c) keep track of the bolts as they are different lengths. I had everything removed last summer to polish the front and I remember that it wasn't that bad of a job.

You do not need to disconnect the A/C lines as there's plenty of room to swing it out of the way once the bolts are removed.
