My 2001 CC Dakota only has 750 miles on it as I have been sick since I got it in Dec. So far it has been hit and run and now it is leaking quarter size oil spots all over the place! Is the 3.9 famous for rear seal leaks or could it just be the pan? Thanks

May be a coincidence, but my '01 qc is in right now for leaks similar to what you describe. However, mine is the 4.7l. Sure looks like either the rear seal or rear of the pan. Only 650 mi on mine. Very sad, but hoping to hear good news tomorrow. Love the truck, and want it right.

Give the dealer hell. Don't put up with that. I used to sell cars for Saturn...Part of a cars ratings are on average amount of defects found on a new car. Let me tell u that a dozen or so is a well built rig...consideing a Saturn had 14,000 parts and had the best score in 96-98 when I sold em. Most problems happen in the first month or so.
Make em fix it and give u a doughnut while u wait.
By the way I just got my first truck last month (87 Dakota), leaked all over, so I tighted every bolt I could find-found 20 or so! Not a drop now.

Funny how some messages die out there, but my previous oil leak ?'s had the same result. Hopefully 'cuz they don't leak much. Got my truck back yesterday for the leak (2nd time in) as described above, and they found that the back of pan (hidden by the trans housing) was leaking. Resealed the pan, cofirmed that the rear seal wasn't leaking, and put it back together. Only 1 day now, but no leaks so far.
