Does anyone know what the limit is for rim width on a dak - 9", 10" or more?

Sorry 'bout interuppting this thread, but could you please answer a question I have on the "Ball Joints" thread. I think that you have experience with this subject.
Don't know about your tire width question, though....sorry.

I have 275/60/15's on my dak, with 15x9 rims. I think it's a combination of width and offset that determines what will fit,I got my wheels from Les Schwab tires, they mounted some on to show how they looked and fit.Check around and maybe someone will offer the same type of service.

Hey Lesley, I read somewhere that you might have an issue with the 10 inch in the front with rubbing on the inside (like in turns). You shouldn't have a problem in the rear of the truck though. Once again all depends on the measurements of the wheel as well. (offset,BS and all of that stuff). Maybe keep the 10's for the rear and get the 9's for the front.

Man, it was $216 at the door! I am really glad to hear that they will fit though, I haven't heard of anyone with more than 9.5" wide. I am going to stop at a really good tire place today to see what kind of $$$ tires like that would cost. I still don't know if I am going to send them back yet.

Lesley, if you want to you could jack up the front end of your truck, put it on jackstands, take one of your front tires off the truck and put one of your new rims on. Then while you're watching have someone crank the steering from left to right slowly and you should be able to tell if you will have issues. Of course you can't see if you will have suspension travel problems this way but you should be able to gauge whether or not your tires will come into contact with the frame with the steering at full lock or even if the rims will go on without interference if they have the correct backspacing.

Thanks for the advice. I am going for a short road trip to a performance place to pick up the traction bars I ordered. There is a tire and rim place there that my mechanic told me about, they get the wheels for all of their race cars and trucks there. I think I will throw one of the Boyds in the truck and go talk to them.
Justin, what happened with yours? I'm sorry to hear you had so much trouble. I thought you were selling them, not sending them back.

Lesley - Have the tire shop test fit the wheel in the front, with the size tire that you want to use... Have them lower it back down and then turn the steering all the way to the right, check it, then all the way to the left and check it again...
It may just be that you will need a slightly lower profile tire... that is what happened to me... 255/55R17's were slightly too tall and rubbed...255/50R17's fit perfectly...

Lesley-- I was going to sell them because they are giving me a hard time with the return, I didn't want to deal with the hassle. I have changed my mind, I am the customer and I am not going to allow them to push me around. It really sucks, because I ordered the tires, and they came in two days before I recieved my rims, I should be driving on them now. They are refusing to pay to ship them back, even though they admitted their mistake. I have threatened with the Better Business Bereau and if come Monday they don't give me the answer I am looking for, the BBB will be contacted. This is ludicrous that I am having such a hassle. I hope everything works out for you!!

what amount of backspacing do you have? that is a big lip. can you post another pic of the lip? maby a 45 degree angle of the rim?

you might not want to "test fit" a tire on the rim just yet. if the bs is wrong, and you mount a tire on the rim, there is no way the rim manufator will take it back.

Middy: I actually ordered them from the states, but I went to Taunton Tires to get them fitted. That is just outside of Oshawa, and he sells all kinds of rims and just became a distributor for Boyds. Apparently Boyd has just opened an outlet in Vancouver. Do I ever wish that I had known that, bad timing!! These were around $1600 Can.
Taunton has Eagles, Am Racing Rims, etc, and he does dicker for packages so you may want to check them out.
