So i'm on my way home from work and stopped at a traffic light. The 318 tries to die out then comes back. I leave the light and it seems ok. About a quarter mile down the road I get a slight surge/miss and the check engine light comes on. Being only about 1 mile away from hom I press on. I came to two more traffic lights and at both I heald the RPMs up to keep it from stalling out. The closer I got to home the worse it got; it sounded like it was missing really bad, almost as if it were out of gas, but there is about a half tank by the gauge and the tripmeter. As i turned into my development everything went dead and no more I started it back up and when i shifted through reverse it stalled at idle. The second time I started it I kept the revs up as I got it into drive. and took off on what seemed at the most to be 4 cylinders. Twice the RPMs dropped to zero for a second then came back to idle which makes no sense to me why it seemed to cut out and come back. As i turned into the driveway it died again and I coasted it in. I haven't checked under the hood or anything and I don't see any stray fluids. Ether there is something at my house that affects the truck like kryptonite to superman, or something is broke. Any ideas what it could be? It is a 94' auto(recently replaced). The only things I have changed that might have contributed are the proformance PCM and an MSD ignition, but both have been going strong for several years now. Any help would be appriciated.

Could be a few things, water in the gas or bad gas is one of them, maybe a clogged fuel filter. I'd also check the distributor cap and rotor, see if maybe some moisture got in there. WD40 can clean that out pretty good. Might want to pour some more gas into the tank, there is always the possibility that the gauge is wrong.

Well I tore into it and I checked the distributor first. Come to find out the coil wire was bairly on, so i think my problom is solved(hopefully). I did spray some silocoe lubricant into the cap as well, then took it for a quick lap and everything was fine. I sure hope I found the problom.

Heh...

Yeah, probally the loose coil and the Kryptonite your storing in your garage. You -really- should store that somewhere safe! :0)

Isn't it great when you resolve a problem like that? I am sure you nailed it, good stuff.

I kind of figure it was electrical when i started it back up and smelled fuel. I had been hoping i wouldn't have to find three freinds to help me take the bad off so I could get at the fuel pump or filter. Thanks for everyones help.

Greetings All
Mine did something similar just the other
day. Started to go on a litte trip then the
truck started to hesitate then picked up.
Pushed on the accel a little bit and it hesitated again.
Check engine light came on and I thought
'Oh Sh*t!'. Decided to cancel the trip and come
back to the house. Then it seemed to run alright.
Set up an appointment to get it loked at. Now
the CEL went out on it's own. Truck seems to
run alright, but every little think I hear now has
got me looking to see if the CEL has come back on.
So far so good, I guess it didn't want to go on a
trip.
