Subject: Cargo area light

98 Club Cab:

What are my options for some sort of light to see the cargo area (truck bed) at night? Has anyone done anything with the top brake light or added a single light somewhere back there?

(I want to avoid drilling holes in the truck)
Thanks.

They sell the stock brake light w/ cargo light at the dealership. You would also have to get a new light dimmer/dome/cargo light switch.

I think it was around $100 when I checked on it a few months ago.

I road in an 89 dak that had small bulbs placed under the bed rails and wired into the bed light. It worked suprisingly well.

What I did was install two lights on the back of my tool box thats mounted across the back of my bed. I ran all the wires underneath the body and up to the power distribution center. Put in a switch and an inline fuse, to keep from blowing the lights or anything else in the electrical system. My rear windows are tinted really dark, so they help backing up at night also.

Cargo and fog lights
IP: Logged

Message:
My 2000 Dakota SLT didn't come with
factory fog lights so I ordered the oem fog kit
from a Dodge dealership. The kit they sent me
was for a Dakota that does NOT have the optional
cargo light switch. My dakota does however.
Can I still use this kit??

I have a bed cover but added a big light and mounted it to my bed plastic bed liner. It illuminates everything fine. The light was $5 at the auto parts store.

Here's one for those of us who have a hard toneau... Go to the wrecker and get an under hood light. I got one from a New Yorker that uses an 1156 bulb(had to be Mopar for me)
I Mounted it to the bracket for the gas shock lift (on the toneau end, near the back end of the cover on mine)
It has a mercury tilt switch inside and only lights when the cover is up. Works sweet. Just a thought.
