I have Stillen Metal Matrix pads on my Rototech drilled and slotted rotors and I am very pleased with the braking performance, not to mention a significant lack of brake dust as compared to the factory pads/rotors.

David

I have Raybestos Quiet Stops and aside from the intial break-in noise, they are a great combo.

what kind of break-in noise are you talking here?
with the quiet stops? how long did it last? also for rascal did the hawk pads go through the same thing? have you had them on long enough to rate the hawk pads on brake dust amounts. they say the quiet stops cause no brake dust....

Just a clicking noise that you could feel in the pedals for the first couple days. I believe it was the pads sliding over the slots, I checked and the rotors are as smooth as glass, so no ill effects.

2THEXTRM, do you know if this clicking noise can also be felt when installing new drums and shoes? I have the same exact problem on total stops and sometimes starts. How long did this take to go away? Does anyone think that the brakes should be adjusted more in the rear?

I didn't feel anything through the pedal during my break-in, but that could be because of the thick, Vibram-soled boots I generally wear. I could hear a ticking sound when rolling to a gentle stop. That went away within the first 100 miles though. Been quiet ever since.

Incorrectly adjusted drum brakes don't normally make any noise unless they are adjusted out so the pad is touching the drum without even pressing the pedal:) If they are adjusted in too far, you won't probably hear anything but might end up with warped front rotors:) My ticking lasted only about 3 days. Good-luck.

I recently installed quiet stops onto my factory rotors and they are squeaking and squealing like crazy...Any ideas on a fix before I drive this thing off a cliff?

Couple of things:

Did you get the rotors turned before installing the QS pads? The stock rotors are notorious for glazing...which exponentially increases the likelyhood of your brakes squealing.

The other possibility is using one of the disc brake silencers. Most major auto parts stores carry their own brand. Simply pull the calipers back off, and follow the directions on the can. You usually just spray the backside of the pads, let them air dry for a couple of minutes & then re-assemble. This adheres the pads to the caliper assembly, and eliminates the pad's ability to "vibrate" in the caliper assembly.

Halo,

Thanks for the help, but I did both things. Kinda wierd. Is it possible that the rears would sqeal? It does sound like its coming from the front though. Im gonna take off the wheels and spray some more of that sticky quiet brakes stuff on the back of the pads. More cant hurt.
