Did you paint your altenator ?? I was looking at the pics of your enging bay on your web site. I must say that your tubing in the engine bay looks good. Any tips on what you used and how you did it ??

The alternator and all the aluminum brackets were polished using a Dremel and wire wheels. It took a weekend to do everything and came out really well. The only problem is that the polishing job didn't last (as low99dakota saw) and I have to redo it. I also used Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish for the A/C lines.

As for the convulted tubing, it's pretty easy to install. I used an assortment of 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4" to do everything. I have a problem with the blue fading and am currently installing StreetGlow's Hottloomz. hopefully this stuff won't fade like the other stuff did (I think the other was Mr. Gasket but I'm not sure).

The stainless steel sleeving looks okay when it's first done, but again it fades over time and needs to be redone before each show season. I usually buy it at PepBoys for about $40/pkg.

I'll have some new pictures up on my site after I get done detailing the engine bay. There's a few things that have been added that the old pics don't show.

Do you think that painting the tubing with high temp paint would help with the fading ??

I seriously doubt that painting the tubing would work. First because the plastic has a coating that makes it oil (and therefore paint) resistant. Second the tubing is too flexible and the paint would chip and flake when you install it.

In talking to others, I was the only one that has a problem with the color fading. And out of those that I talked to I was the only one with blue tubing. So I figure it's a problem with the blue dye.

Thanks Lesley :-)

The house was put on hold for a couple weeks so I could work on my Dak so I could get it back on the road. That and after working on the house for about 1 1/2 months day & night I was ready for a break.

We've moved the furniture back into the two rooms as shown on dt.org even though the cabinetry doors and drawers still need to be done. The upstairs hall, front foyer and stairway are still in a state of flux and I should be starting on it later this week if I get the ambition.

I figure I'll need about 2 months to do the rest because side work is starting to come in and I still have things to do to my Dak before show season. Looks like I'll have two coffee pots going :-)

How's it feel to be done with an aspect of a project? I think it feels pretty good. Be sure to post some pics somewhere when you get the floors done.
