well i just finished the mbrp install on my 98 4x4 5.2 cc.
it wasnt too pretty let me start by saying. it took me about 8 hours in total. The worst parts were not from mbrp, they were from the stock dak itself. these canadian winters/road salt do murder to your under vehicle. i first had to remove the trailer hitch i installed 4 years ago (myself) and have never used. it was rusted on there pretty good. then the bumper came off, same thing = 6 bolts that didn't want to budge.

next came the stock exhaust. i tried to undo the stock exhaust in front of the muffler. it was pretty well rusted/fused together. My father-in-law grinded down the pipe enough for us to get a chisel in there and hammer off the muffler. then came the dreaded muffler hangers. (which normally wouldnt be bad cause i deal with them new everyday at work) but after a few years, they dont want to come off. i used a pry bar and ended up snapping the one muffler hanger clean off at the boltheads! (the one behind the muffler, the main one you need to hang the exhaust)

So off to the muffler shop i went to get them to weld it back on. 20 bucks later and lunch for my father-in-law, and we were back home. put on the rollpan and TRIED to align the pipes, i may have done something wrong with them (or it could be the rollpan?) but they dont sit %100 perfectly, and we got them to a "notbad" level.

so im painting the rollpan right now as we speak. well first coat is drying anyways, using a spray bomb. i went to the automotive paint shop and they mixed the paint up and put it in the spray bomb. i painted my dash bezel this way and it looks really really good, thats why i decided to paint the rollpan myself. after its dry i'll clear it and finish it up

next weeks lessons of "what not to do" will be the racing stripes im installing (myself and my brother-in-law)

What is a Spray Bomb? Just curious because there are some things that I want to paint myself, and this might be what I need.

Thanks,

Sean

just your regular "spray paint" in the aerosol can like you'd buy on the shelf at wal-mart or pep boys or something. except they will mix it up for you to what ever colour you want. even paint-match it to your vehicles paint code. it costs about $16 canadian funds (thats what, about $10 u.s funds?)

Will any paint shop do that? I'm in Canada also (Windsor, ON). If this is so, I think I will contact some, and see how much. I just bought some rams head taillight covers, and would like to get them painted, and I was also thinking of getting a clear bug deflector, and painted the backside of it.

Thanks,

Sean

Not sure how well standard paint will take to a clear bug deflector. You might be better off with paint made for Lexan as it is flexable and you can mix it to match depending on the kind you get.

im in Wisconsin and i found the best way to get any bolt loose underneath my truck is for in most cases take a wrench and a long pipe and i usulay end up snapping the bolt head off or breaking the bolt, then pounding the rest of it through with a small maul and a center punch, or i end up drilling them out, jsut the way it works whyen you live up north and work under vehicles

I saw an interesting way to remove stuborn bolts at a VW proformance shop once and it does seem to work. Instead of putting on penatraiting oil they used Windex. It leaves no oily mess behind either, of course that wouldn't really work for frozen bolts.

well, my bolts werent frozen. heh heh heh, i was doing my exhaust in my t-shirt actually

as for the paint, i went to "dura" auto body paint and supplies. they specialize in all types of auto paint. i used the base/clear. but you can get it in acrylic enamel or the other kind for plastics with the flex agent in it (or is that the primer?)
all in whatever colour you need. (i sound like a commercial don't i?)
