hey...i have a 1998 Dakota Sport V-6 2WD and i was wanting the off-road/tough look for it. I was wondering if i can just get maybe a 2 to 3 inch body lift and maybe 31 or 32 inch mud terrains and be done or do i have to purchase many other things and fix a ton of things on my truck to get it to perform correctly. and answers would be greatly appriciated. thanks

A 2" Body lift will allow for 30" BFG's. Anything larger (31-32" will require some form of Suspension lift as well for proper clearance.)

I've been running the Fabtech 3" Suspension and Performance Accessories 2" Body lift on my '97 2WD Dak for well over a year now without any problems.

One recommendation though...with 31" or larger tires (you can stuff up to a 33" tire under the Dak with 3" Suspension and 3" Body Lift), you'll need at least 3.90:1 gears in the back. (I run 4.10:1.)

You cannot use the factory rims with the 3" Fabtech susp. lift because they will hit the upper control arm. If you go with a body lift you should be ok (but I would recomend the susp lift for looks and performance). I had a 3" Fabtech susp. lift w/ 31" BFG AT on my 99 dakota w/ the stock 3.55 gears and it ran fine. I could not feel any loss in power (w/ the 5.2) but I did lose about 1 mpg.

see...heres the thing...im only 16 so i can only afford a 3 inch body lift. so ill have to get the body lift. if i get that then can i get the 31 inch mud terrains from bf goodrich and keep my factory rims. i dont really understand what "stock" means so i dont get what you said about the gears. so can you please sum up if all these things i said are ok to do and sum up the gear thing for me. thank you very much.

31" may fit with a 3" Body lift...but fender trimming will be required.

On the gear swap, you really should change the gears with the 31" tires. Check your glovebox for the actual gears installed in your truck from the factory though. You can get away with it, but as Albert noted, he lost about 1mph...yes, this is due to the gearing.
