Subject: What mud flaps on 4x4?
IP: Logged

Message:
I was hoping to get some opinions from those
who have mud flaps on their Dakota 4x4. My
2001 didn't come with mud flaps, and I would
like to get some if they aren't going to look
bad (prevent some of the dirt and rocks from
chipping the nice new paint). Does anyone have
after market mud flaps? I see all kinds at the
auto parts store. Should I just go with some of
those, or would you recommend getting them the
ones from Dodge.

Thanks.

Well, I just order a set for my 2001 4x4. They are made by Huskey. Make sure you get the ones that match your truck (either with or without wheel flares)

I bought a set of these for my 2000 Blazer and they are molded specificaly for eack truck. They look real good.

They cost about 35 bucks per pair. Hope that helps ya.

BigA I have dodge mudflaps on my truck and they look pretty good. The little silver ram logo wears off if you get in the deep snow a lot,but they protect from stone chips.

Chris gave me a good idea. You can put the Dodge Ram hood emblem on the flaps. There is a guy on e bay that sells them for 15 bucks. Havent gotten them yet, but Im sure that it will look sweet.

I got the Mopar molder flaps.....were about $35 (per pair)...there are molded in ram heads on each one. There look good and follow the contours well. Just be aware that some of the flaps (even some of the Mopar versions) are held on with clips that slide over the fender inner lip and scrape the paint which can cause rust. I got the molded versions because they attach with an existing fender flare screw and you have to drill two holes in each flare for two screws(and one in the inner rubber splash guard for a press in fastener). You don't drill into steel, just into the flare...very easy to repair the plastic and touch up if need be. Just my $0.02.
I can send a digital pick if anyone is interested in the install....let me know.

Thanks to all of you for responding. Hojo, I
have seen the Mopar mud flaps but I haven't seen
the Husky. Where did you buy yours? I would like
to take a look. Also, as Incubus2432 mentioned,
how are these installed? Do you use a clip or
do you drill a few holes in the fender flares?

Thanks.

I ordered mine at a local parts store (ATV) here in NY. They install the same way as the Mopars with the existing fender screws. Thay have basically the same look as the mopars without the Rams head.

I live in Westbuty also. ATV is pretty overpriced on most of their stuff. I thought I might tell you. You should price around before you go there.

You are right about that, but the one I go to is a small one in Hicksville. The owner is a huge help...remembers my exact truck and he really knows his shit. His prices are reasonable too. If I spend 5 bucks extra on a 75 dollar item, its worth it.

Westbury too huh? Small world. Funny, I used to work at ATV about 12 years ago. The retail prices are high there but there isn't much competition in the area for the same stuff. I got great prices when I worked there :). The reason you probably like the Hicksville store is that it is privately owned and is not one of the company owned stores. They have the right to the name but are not bound to the corporate prices like the other stores. Can't wait to get my truck.
