Subject: 2000 Dash Removal
IP: Logged

Message:
I am trying to install an aftermarket tach. The location where i want to mount it requires that i remove the dash (to drill and mount base plate) I have removed the black part before but this requires removing the whole thing all the way up to the windshield. it appears to be one piece all the way across. Is it possible to remove this whole piece? I can see many fastners along the windshield as well as under the black trim part. And what about the airbag is that just a cover part attached to the rest of the dash?

Any info on this would be appreciated

Thanks

Yes, the dash does come apart to the degree that you need/want. The only problem is that in order to remove the "main" section of dash you'll also have to remove all the small pieces on the bottom of the dash, the passenger side airbag, the steering column and a whole host of other things. Or at least that's what my '99 FSM tells me.

I wanted to take out the main dash so I could do something with it, but once I saw the process I said no way and stuck with the smaller pieces. Is there any other place where you could mount the tach?
