I am considering replacing my OEM muffler w/ a Dynomax. Should I go with the Ultra Flo model or the Super Turbo. I don't mind hearing a little rumble from the engine room but don't want to constantly drone going down the highway (where I do most of my driving). It's a 97 4x4 w/ a 3.9. Thanks for the info.

I just bolted on a Super Turbo to my existing pipe. ie replace the old muffler. The sound is a slight rumble and not at all a drone. I also added an AirRaid intake and the whole package is great.

I got the inlet center and the out let is off center

Hey Brandon, I plan on doing the same thing to
my truck. I am going to buy the super turbo
muffler and bolt it on to the existing exhaust.
Do you have any tips? Were there any problems?
My truck is only 4 months old, so I'm hoping
the stock muffler will come off fairly easy. By
the way, where did you get your muffler?

Thanks.

It should. Just make sure that the muffler length and inlet/outlet is close (or matches) the factory muffler.

Thought I already posted this, but it didn't show up . . .

I just added the Gibson 788200 to my stock pipes. For SuperTurbo, try 17710 or 17749. Both are just a few inches shorter than stock, and the muffler shop would have no problem adding th epiece they need.

I don't know if there's any performance difference between a round muffler (17710) and hemi (17749). Try Summitracing or Jegs for these Dynomax mufflers. Carparts carries the Gibson, but make sure you have a coupon.

Sorry for the lateness in answering, but I broke my collar bone this weekend..and well..no time to answer.
There was some sort of set screw that prevented the muffler from rotating when i removed the clamps, so to get around this I used a Dremel tool to cut away the muffler from the pipe. be careful not to cut the exhaust inlet, or outlet. From the factory...the pipe is somewhat criped to the muffler...so you will have to muscle it a little. Good luck.

Brandon, thanks for the info. Sorry to hear about
mishap this weekend; that's got to hurt. It sounds
like your muffler was a pretty good fit. What was
the part number of the Dynomax muffler you used?
I know you used a universal but wanted to know
the exact model. Oh, by the way, was it a round
muffler or a hemi type?

Thanks again.

17733...should be the correct one. it is an oval, so it is kinda in at an angle.

Update:
I installed the dynomax last night (#17733). Putting the new one on was the easy part. Getting the old one off took a considerable amount of effort and about 12 cut-off wheels for my dremel tool. Anyway, I noticed on the OEM muffler that there was a tiny hole drilled in the bottom to drain moisture. The Dynomax didn't have such a hole. Should I drill one at the lowest point? By the way, if you install the 17733, you'll need a small piece (4.5") to make up the length due to the shorter muffler.

Nononononono....don't drill a hole in the Dynomax. The reason for the hole on the factory muffler is to drain the water in order to keep the muffler from rusting (which they do anyways). The Dynomax (depending on part number) is either Stainless or Galvanized.

I can't believe how much water comes out the factory muffler and tail pipe. Now with aftermarket system they don't come with any drain holes. I don't see the problem of drilling a hole, to drain the water. Even if the muffler is stainless steel or aluminum. That would slow down the rusting progress.

How come everyone is talking about the dynomax super turbo, nobody mentioned a thing about the ultra-flo muffler which in my opinion sounds and performs alot better than the turbo.

The Ultra Flow mufflers are excellent mufflers...the reason for not mentioning them is the huge price difference between the "budget oriented" Super Turbo vs. the UltraFlow.

$20 - $30 difference?? I hope that's not enough to deter people from the Ultraflow!? I'm with Anthony. I'd definitely consider the Ultraflow if you are considering a stock replacement. Put one on my truck last week and it sounds & performs GREAT.
Around $70 delivered to my door via 2nd day air. And I didn't shop around, I'm sure there are cheaper places to buy them than Summit Racing. Buttttt, I was anxious and they had them in stock.

I realize this is a really old post, but it's where I am at right now.
Anyone in Canada now where I can find a Dynomax Ultra Flow that fits my 2000 4.7L.
Based on the measurements above, in calling around I am looking at $200 for the S/S and $251 for the welded. That would be cdn funds, and they say they are much shorter than stock, between 3 1/2" for the oval(which i don't think will fit) and 7.5" shorter for the 6" round.
I am having a crisis.. lol.. I want something that will pretty much just bolt right up.. any help would be great!! thanks!
Should I go with a flowmaster? I want the rumble.. but don't want to lose any torque.

Thanks!

I lived in Canada. But I got mine from wwww.summitracing.com which is in the US. Mine is the DYNOMAX ULTRA FLOW SS. The model number is #17263 . It fits right on the the stock pipes perfectly, and I love the sound. Also, mine is the 6" round, the best of the best.

Take it to your local muffler shop, and they'll install it. They'll add extra piping since the factory muffler is longer than the Dynomax #17263 . Be sure to get some nice SS tips to show your exhaust off.

I just put the Dynomax 17236 on my 01 5.9 QC - DIRECT BOLT IN. Only mod was to add the two little locating notches. It is so quiet barely even know it is there BUT the 01's have 3 cats. It actually sounds like my dad's 02 4.7 QC stock - slight rumble.

It is the same size as my stock muffler which was nice. Just over $100

Hope this helps - Oh yeah no low end torque loss with the ultra flow and this enging.

I too would like to know about the Dynomax Ultra Flo SS and Ultra Flo Welded. I'm torn between the two for my '02 4.7L CC 4x4. The guy at the shop says to go with a Super Turbo muffler but he hasn't heard the Ultra Flo's either. Any tips?
