Subject: r/t vs 3.9 suspension
IP: Logged

Message:
right now i have a dak sport 3.9, and i kinda want to make it look like an r/t (i'm a college kid, couldnt afford the gas on a real r/t heh) so im gonna try to get some of those fender flares and i'm gonna order a set of chromed r/t rims. my question is, is there a difference between the r/t and the regular 3.9 suspension? it almost looks as if the r/t is maybe a lil wider looking and possibly a little lower? am i smoking crack or is this right? if so does anyone make a kit that will make my dak look like an r/t?

also, does ne1 know where i can find a pic of a dakota w/ those chromed r/t rims on it just to see how they look? black preferably.

thanks for the help

From what I've heard the suspension is the same, but the extra weight of the 360 is what makes it lower, but nobody has ever confirmed this. The fender flares and wider tires are what makes it look wider. Here are some pics of a black truck with the chrome wheels http://blackdakrt.com/jim.html

by the time you buy those chrome rims and fender flairs you could have payed for the extra money in gas until you are out of college. just a thought.

No the suspension is definately purposely lowered in the back. They may very well use v-6 springs in the front to get it lower but I doubt it. That would make the front feel spongy which my R/T is very stiff in the front. It is 1" lower in the front and the back over any other 2wd. Also the R/T package is the only way you get a rear sway bar on a 2wd RC. It looks wider because the rims are 2-2" wider then the 15's and the extra width is probably more out-spaced then back-spaced. I'd think you could get the R/T suspension used for a good price from sombody who went to a Hotchkis setup.

Ok, the wheels on the Newer R/T are not chrome, they are polished, not yelling just setting straight. The suspension set up is different between the 2 trucks. The front coils are different. The R/T needs a stiffer coil to support the engine, and yes the suspension is 1" lower in the front and rear than the other packages. This is substantiated by the fact that I parked my truck next to a stock Sport model, and it was indeed lower.

Then the new 2002 R/T owners better file a lawsuit against Dodge for misadvertising the wheels as chrome.

yeah, i knew that the new rims were polished, but im looking at aftermarket chromed rims, that are modeled after the r/t style. i havent decided whether or not i want to do that though, i saw the pics put up by HSKR and i didnt really like them too much...i dunno...

btw...John S. thanks for pointing that out..i feel like a moron now..lol. i had trouble finding an r/t that fit my bill though. i had to have a black cc and it had to come in under 10,000 with not many miles. but still....that kinda sux, you should have told me that a month ago. heh

btw....what do the sway bars do?????
