Subject: Fog Lights & High Beams...Again!
IP: Logged

Message:
I want to change my fog lights so they stay on with either low or high beams.

I've read the old posts and it seems unclear, so please bear with me. One suggestion was to make a jumper across the fog light relay under the PDC under the hood. A response to this post said that this did not work for his 2001. The other suggestion was to cut and connect two wires (wht/tan and wht/violet) of the central timer module under the drivers kick panel.

Which one is correct for a 2002 QC?? Or is there another way?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

When you hit the hi-beams, it cuts power to the relay coil, so what you (and I) want to do is prevent this. One way might be to rig the foglights so they aren't switched thru the headlight switch, just by the " foglight switch" on the dash. Ok guys here we go. First pull the headlight switch. second find the blue/black wire on the 14 pin connector. Third, Find the black/green wire on the 2 pin connector. Fourth, connnect them with a short wire that is the same gauge. (do not cut them apart). Fifth tape them up, solder, them , whatever you want, but make sure to protect them. Sixth, test them. Seventh, put it back together.
This worked for my truck but I'm not responsible if it doesn't work for yours.

Larry is correct this worked on my 200 i would assume this would be the same on 2001 and 02. I used two scotch connectors and a jump wire of 3-4 inches in length. worked great. I am not responsible either if this does not work, you need not to cut wires just use the scotch connectors. if the fogs dont work as planned then remove connectors and jumper wire, and tape wires with electrical tape. should be fine.

RJAY,
I am the one who wrote the mod using the wires on the central timer module. This I found was by far the easiest and cleanest approach, in my opinion, to accomplish this task. However, that being said, without looking at the actual wiring diagrams for the 2002
it would be a shot in the dark to say it, or any other method on this sight, would work on your rig. The factory maintenance manual on CD rom is about 90 bucks and has about 2300 pages of valuable info including wiring diagrams. Cheap investment for a $27000 truck. It might be worth the $ to have. It may prevent any mistakes when doing any mods like this..

Thanks for the input.

Has anyone done this to their 2002? If so, which method did you use?

Thx

FYI,
I am sure you guys are aware that it is illegal to have your hi-beams and fog lights on at the same time. It may not be the smartest law, but they will nail you on it if caught. Just passing that along

Illegal only in certain states I beleive. Some states still have enough common sense to realize passing shuch laws are just a greater waste of taxpayer money. You shouldn't have you brights on when approaching other drivers so what difference does it make if you have 757 landing lights on as long as there is nobody in front of you?

My local authorities state that as long as you dim your brights for uncoming traffic, they wouldn't stop you.

Still looking for someone with a 2002, that has done this mod???? Anyone????

Thanks
