Subject: Spare Tire

Message:
I am just about to put on my (4) new 17x9 R/T rims and Toyo Proxes S/T 255x60x17 tires.

But I am unsure on what to do for a spare. I have a great spare tire (never used), but it is on the stock Dakota Sport rim at 15x8 with 275x60x15 tires.

Can I run that spare if I need to? Or will it damage something?

If you have a limited slip and the tires are a different diameter then you can quickly wear out the limited slip part of the rear end. If you run different diameter tire on the front then it will handle bad and pull to one side most likely. As an emergeny for a few miles it shouldn't matter. Put the spair side by side to one of the 17's, if they are the same height then don't worry about it.

You're going to need a different spare tire. You can use the 15x8 rim but you'll probably want a 255/70-15 or 275/65-15 tire as a spare. Check for used tire places near you. You can probably pick up a cheap tire to use as a spare. They may even take your old spare tire in trade and make it a wash.

You're speedo is going to be off also. And you may notice that you have less power since you've raised your gearing as a result of going to tires that are 1" taller than before.

If you get a flat, and your 50 miles from anywhere to get fix, your not gunna go 70 on the spare anyway,... I say don't worry about it, more over you're only going to be drivin' at about 50 at most, no biggy yall it's all good.
