 Subject: Headlights go out

I bought my '97 Dakota about 1 1/2 years ago, and I truely love it. However, on several occasions the headlights go off while driving. Needless to say, it scares the hell out me! I pull off the road and set there for a few monents and they will come on again. It happened again about a month ago. Any suggestions as to what is wrong and what I can do to fix it? Thanks for any input.

Sounds like a ground problem or the power to the lights is temporarily cut off, I would check the headlight switch first, sometimes the contacts inside go bad. A new switch should run 25.00 from the dealer.this is a hit or miss fix here.
