I have a "92" dakota and am going to replace the upper and lower suspension bushings along with the ball joints. I don't have much confidence in the coil spring compressor that I have because I can only fit one of them on because the upper control arm is in the way. Has anyone had any experiences in doing this job?

Dont be an IDIOT. Using a jack instead of a spring compressor is a sure trip to the emergency room or worse. It amazes me how some people can offer advice when they clearly dont posses the mental capacity required to do even the most remedial task. Although removing the spring may work using this method, reinstallation is another matter. Any Kragen "rents" the tool for free - get the internal type.

I believe that Autozone also lends out their spring compressor.

in dakota/cali's defence, thats the way they remove the springs on the tv show trucks.

you could always wrap a chain around the spring and attach it to the controll arm just in case.

but since they rent them out for free, you might as well go rent one
