well i went to the dodge dealer today, to see about trading my truck for a 02 R/T, and i found out that dodge is definatly going to put the hemi into the 2003 dakota. the guy i talked to was the fleet manger, and just got word from chrystler a few days agao.

and best of all, its going to cost about the same as the current R/T! needless to say, i didnt get a 2002 ;-)

Now if it'd only come with a manual. (then you could do some serious musclecar hunting)

he told me that it will be replacing the 5.9, so im assuming it will be available in only the R/T (or SRT) and in the QC

he said to call him back in late may to place my order. he said he wont get pricing untill mid june, but if i want to cancell my order it would be no problem because it would be no problem to sell. HE WILL DEFINATLY BE GETTING A CALL FROME ME! ;-)

he said he dosent know if a 5speed will be available, but even a auto will be worth it. 354hp will stomp my 5.2/5speed any day

i think in the lighter dakota, it will give lightnings a good run

I would think that if this were true there would be news all over the net and in magazines about it.....I havent seen any I would question the validity of your dealers sources.

I was looking around earlier, and I found that Edmunds said that it was "likely". It could happen.

I think it would be put into the new Ram first
anyways. I agree it should be around the
press, first i hear of it here. Isnt the hemi a
super polluter? Why then would a company
who is trying to meet emissions standards
(4.7) Offer this engine in place of the 5.9? I
think a 4.7HO is more likely. Well see. If your
right, I'll owe you a drink.

the new hemi is going to have 2 plugs per cylender, and is sopose to be verry clean.

it is going into the 03 rams. that is because the 5.9 is no longer available. since the R/T has a 5.9 it should get the hemi as well.

the manager said. the rams, dakotas, and ram vans are getting it. he didnt say if the durangos are getting it or not.

Take it for what it's worth but a budy of mine recently tried to order an R/T from the dealership he works at and they told him that they had been canceled for '02. Inside info is that if you have an order in your clear that DC is making due of all the 5.9's lying around and that they're going to start putting the new 5.7 in it's place for'03, just what I was told. Saw the new HEMI first hand at the Dodge City display in Daytona in Feb. Gave me goosebumps just looking at it, very sweet. Had it in the new Ram 3500HD. Anyways, those are my 2cnts,like I said, take it for what it's worth.

Now that the redesign is cancelled this is more possible, but I still don't think they will do it. Yes the 5.7 is supposed to replace the 360 but they are stopping ram van production and the Dakota wasn't really made for the 360 in the first place (Not until 98 did they finally do it). So I think when Dodge says they are replacing the 360 with the 5.7 hemi they are pretty much just talking full size Rams. The new Durango is suppposed to get almost as big as the Ram so it would make sense it would get the Hemi as well. So if 5.7 hemi motor production can exceed demand for those two platforms then maybe the Dakota can get a special edition with the 5.7 hemi. I just don't think this will happen as early as 2003 as they were way behind getting the production running for these motors and they barely are going to have enough for 2500 and 3500 series Rams in 2003. If they do it then bye-bye to my 2000 R/T and hello 2003 R/T! I'm not putting any ads in the paper just yet.
