Subject: Wheel Bearing Dust Caps?
IP: Logged

Message:
Anyone having a two wheel drive 2001?

When rotating your tires, did you notice whether or not there are dust caps on the front hub to cover the wheel bearings?

I didn't pay attention to that until last night, during my fourth tire rotation. There are no bearing dust caps on mine!

Someone stated that the wheel bearings are sealed. But if so, why is mine on the right seeping bearing grease? Why does the maintenance schedule have "repack the front wheel bearings" on it? I think the 4WD model has sealed bearings.

Guess I will have to go to the dealer and insist they change the wheel bearings and install the missing caps. I'm sure they will try to install the caps and leave the contaminated bearings in there.

Please let me know.

I had the same problem on my front left. I talk to the dealer and there are not suposed to be dust caps. But I took it in because of the leak and it was fixed right away. After that the bearing desintigrated and destroyed the hub and it all had to be replaced. Since then I've had no problems. I would go to the dealer ASAP. Feel free to email direct if you have more questions.
