Subject: Mileage just went to crap
IP: Logged

Message:
Im driving a genII 3.9 V6 and I just lost about 4 to 5 mpg. The spark plugs have all been replaced as well as the cap and rotor and I just put a new 02 sensor in.
Any ideas on what could be wrong? bad 02 sensor?

I guess I should also mention that I drilled out the cap on the idle set screw on the throttle body and gave it a 1/4 turn. (the idle was runnning below 400rpm)

Thanks in advance for the help

Mine just got back to normal.. (or close too) it was caused by an air intake thing being jammed open. (sorry i dont know the name of it..) but it was covered in black and wouldn't move.. my mileage got so bad it was down to 5mpg before it was cured....

To get it fixed the garage did a "3 stage injector Purge"

Try pulling your injectors out and looking into the inlet side. Cost=$0. I had bad injectors (sticking open) because of a grit like rust in the inlet side. It will give you a strong fuel smell from the exhaust.
There are 2 O2 sensors, one pre cat and one after the cat. You may go through a good amount of cash trying to hunt and peck (troubleshooting) the prob. If you are not mechanical, then I recommend taking it to a reputable dealer or garage. If You are a good mech man then go at it.
Is it running rough, stuttering and backfiring, look at the belly pan gasket. The inlet thing thing Drew was talking about is probubly the IAC seliniod behind the throttle body. You should Disconnect the TB, take off the sensors and clean the entire assembly with soap and water, then reinstall. Look at some other posts on milage to get some other Ideas...
