I've come to the point where I'm so pi$$ed with the dealer that I'm thinking of cancelling my order and going to another dealer. If your not aware, I've been waiting 11 weeks for my truck, and now they are saying it will be about two more weeks. I called another dealer, to see if they would match the price I'm paying for my truck, and they would beat it by $100 plus they would give me the "jumbo" side view mirrors as well. (Currently the truck I ordered does not have them). So I'm stuck with the desicion to wait another 6-8 weeks for a truck which would be cheaper and have an extra option that I really wanted, or just wait the two weeks and pay the a$$es who I ordered my truck from originally. What would you guys do?

I don't really see the mirrors as being that big of a deal. You can probably trade with somebody who doesn't like their big mirrors. As far as how long the truck is taking - I'm not sure how much any dealer can influence that. Why would the delay in your ordered truck be the dealer's fault? I guess you wouldn't really know for sure whether the other dealer could actually get it in 6-8 weeks. You could probably get your current dealer to come down by that $100 if you really tried. Even if you can't - is waiting another 6-8 weeks worth the $100? Would you pay $12.00 per week to be able to drive the truck sooner?

I believe the dealer forgot to put in my order until I called at week six to check on the status of my truck, and when I asked about the where abouts they just kept on giing me the runaround. As for the mirrors, I looked into buying them after I got my truck and they want $234.30cnd a piece for them...and I haven't come across anyone yet who doesn't like their jumbo heated mirrors. Anyway, thanks for the input...keep it coming.

I'd tell them how pissed off I was, how much it put me out, and tell them I expect them to pay for and put the damn mirrors on for free! Can't hurt to try.

yeah, i gotta tell ya' i woulda' walked a while ago. how much deposit did ya' give 'em and was it cash or did ya' charge it. if ya' charged it, you might stand a shot at disputing the charge. if ya' gave 'em cash or check, i doubt you'll be seeing any of it returned if you cancel the order. something else to consider: if you stay with this dealership, are ya' gonna be able to trust them with any service you need...i wouldn't. whatever you decide, i hope it all works out in the end for you. good luck.

I charged the deposit($500), and didn't sign anything so I think I should be able to get it back. I'm with you, I won't be able to trust these guys, so I'm gonna walk. Thanks for the opinions.

If you walk I am sure they will keep the $500.00. If you go to another dealer you will have to wait another 8 weeks for that one to come in I don't really see the advantage.

Walk, dude. Plain and simple. Get your money back & walk. If the dealership "claims" they cannot tell you anything about the status of your vehicle, they pretty much just don't give a shiznat! More interested in volume sales than keeping lifetime customers.

Back in '94 when I bought my *choke* Ranger *cough*, the F___ dealership told me what point my truck was at almost everyday. It only stands to reason that the Dodge dealer can do at least that in 2002!!

I had simular issue when I ordered My 99Dak. At 9wks they still could not tell me when. I was buying out of state and I think the bastards got it and were going to sell it to someone else.

anyway I found a local dealer who had vry simular truck except a few options. Bargained with him and got it that day plus he covered my lost deposit. Good Deal

2 Hrs after playing them against each other and driving off the lot the first dealer called to say my truck was on the lot. BULLSH!T

Dodge sucks on custom jobs. But I do love my DAK

have to agree with R/Truck. Buy used and avoid getting reamed

You should be able to track it yourself - Isn't that 800 number listed here somewhere?

And you should certainly be able to verify the date the dealer placed the order...

This is a major purchase - and soon to be your favorite toy/best friend, etc.
They must kiss you bum exactly as you tell them...

I would strongly agree - go have a very indignant chat with the manager - and also talk to any other dealers in your area to make them aware of these losers and help out your future Dakota owners' brotherhood

They CAN'T keep the $500. I went to my first dealer and he kept 'looking' around for a week, and I told him that while I wanted an SXT (to save a bit of money) that I wasn't real firm on that....and he kept looking for JUST SXT's. He kept telling me he could find nothing in the area, and I said "That's funny, I found 2 at the dealership down the street from me." He then began to give me a long sob story.....I asked for the money back which THEY SAID would not be deposited (and was). If they give you that kind of crap, or lie to you ONCE, that's it. I understand dealers sort of have to 'keep some secrets' sometimes (otherwise they'd make no money *L*) but lying is another thing entirely.

Here's the latest update...I phoned another dealer and asked how long it should take to get a Dakota built and shipped to Calgary, and he said the longest should be 7 weeks. They also had a Graphite Dak which had everyhting I was looking for except the color. So I called my original dealer,(by the way I've been talking with the manager the whole time) and told him I wanted my deposit back because I found one that I was going to get right away. He told me that I woud lose my deposit, so just to wait a week and he will throw in the side mirrors. I told him that he can't keep my deposit, since I didn't sign anything and they did not tell me it was non-refundable (they also told me it would not be used). Anyway, since it will be here in a week and I waited this long for the exact truck I wanted I figured I'd stick it out. The only worry I have is that I can't trust this guy, and he's not going to honour what he said. If that's the case I'll tell him to take his truck, wash it, polish it, shine it up real nice, then turn that son-of-b*tch sideways and shove it up his candya$$

I say again (and you know this already) that they CAN NOT keep your deposit. If you signed NOTHING as you said you did, you could take them to court. They specifically have to state that it is nonrefundable. Even still, when I gave my deposit, I made sure to ask if it was refundable, and they said "Oh yes, definitely." If something else happens and you are dissatisfied, and you try to walk and they say you lose the deposit, you tell them that if they do not refund your deposit immediately, you will get a lawyer. If you REALLY were going to lose your deposit, he probably would not have said 'wait a week and I'll throw in the side mirrors.' :-|

Reading this makes me glad I got my 2001 Dak used through the "Auto Trader" .It only had 2200km on it . Got Dak? , If I were you at this point I'd wait it out. It CAN'T be that much longer. But make sure the manager knows you're pissed and get what you can from him. Tell him you're going to write Chrysler Canada and complain, they hate that threat because it can affect their bonuses. Try for 5 free oil changes as well as the mirrors. Dealerships can absorb service costs easier than other costs. Use them up and then if you can, take your service business somewhere else. Screw any long term relationship with them if you can't trust them or don't like them.
