Haven't posted for a while but first:

GRRRR! Some stray cat decided to ruin my hood and the rooftop by walking on it! I noticed every footprints, followed by scratched etched into my clear coat... on top of that, I discovered two white scratches on the hood, which probably resulted from the cat's claw. What's even worse, my dakota is black.

Other than that, I was pretty pleased with my dakota's performance today. I was going up the mountain at an elevation of 4000 feet, and I was getting nowhere with the overdrive on... So for the heck of it, I decided to turn off the O/D and !vroom! I was able to pass the other cars easily. At first, I was hesitant about damaging the transmission but wasn't exactly sure... Anyone?

By the way, mine's a V6 and I have to admit--I did kinda regret not getting the 4.7L engine.

Keep those cats off your precious dakotas.

Overdrive is just that, a much steeper gear ratio that significantly drops RPMS for better gas milage. You stand more chance damaging something by 'lugging' the engine in overdrive than you do by downshifting it. :0)

Point-

I have a V6 5-speed regular cab. My 5th gear is overdrive, 4th is direct-gear ratio (RPMs climb nearly in sync with speedo). I moved from Michigan to Florida in January, towing a tandem axle U-haul. The truck was loaded and wouldn't maintain highway speed once I hit Kentucky in 5-th gear. So we ran 4th gear until Georgia, at 80-85mph. Besides getting crappy gas milage, no damage was done.

Well... it -did- do something to the muffler. The truck is a -lot- louder now. I can't wait to stick a Flowmaster on it :0)

I hate those damn stray cats.
They always leave their dirty little footprints all over my truck.
I hope they eat a little of the *Delicious* food I left for them, Heh Heh Heh.
