Subject: rumor to the 5.7 hemi = :-(

I just got back from the Cleveland auto show in Ohio and a represenative says that it is only a rumor that Dodge is thinking about putting the hemi in the Dokota, since it isn't even availabile in the 1500. Only in the 2500 and above. I think that they forgot about the Dokota. However this fall the V-10 Ram will be sold as an 03' and can do 0 to 60 in well under 5 seconds, and has 120 hp more than a Lightening. Can we say ohh sh!t. I can't wait to see one on the streets. It is going to come factory with 24" rims!!! Can't afford to be roasting too many tires :-) Although with a price tag well in to the 40k's I don't think anyone that can get their hands on one of them is all that woried about money for tires.

I think there will be a hemi in the Dakota, the 5.7 hemi is just the standard replacement motor for the current 5.9. It is going to be in no less supply then the current 5.9 and if they are going to do an R/T in a bigger, heavier, redesigned Dakota, then without the 5.7 hemi it will suck performance wise. Some times Dodge doesn't want to put out too much info about what is coming down the pipe or they won't sell what they have currently available. They need to move what they got now, before what they will have later and the redesigned Dakota is still not going to be here until a 2004 model with the Hemi a year after that. The 5.7 hemi will be in the 1500 Ram next year, as the 2002 Ram is just not lining up well against the Chevy 1500 series with only the v-6, 4.7, and 5.9. They would be fools not to put it in the 1500 series Ram as they would conceed a lot of sales in the #1 truck catagory (1500 series) right over to Ford and Chevy.

Where my money is:
The 4.7 is going to replace the 5.2 wherever that may still be being used
The 4.7HO is going to replace the 5.9
The 5.7 Hemi is going to replace the truck V-10
The Viper V-10 Ram is going to be Dodge's muscle car while the 4.7HO Dak is going to continue to be the little pocket rocket.
The 5.9 Cummins will be around for a good long time as it has a following like the Greatful Dead.

So where are they going to get the capasity for the 4.7? there is no way they can put that motor in 90% of the Dakotas, Rams, Grand Cherokees, Ram Vans, and Durangos. The Saltillo motor plant is going to pump out 5.7 hemis to the tune of 250,000 a year, they are going to be in far greater supply then needed by 2500 and 3500 series Rams only. I don't see how the 1-2000 R/T Dakotas they sell every year will put a dent in the 250,000 available motors. Then they can always add production when the production of the 5.9 finally stops in 2003.

Pick up a copy of Mopar magazine. They talk about it and they made the claim that first the hemi is goming to go into the 2500 and 3500 rams. Then in 04' it is supposed tobe released in an alum block version for the large sedans, i.e. intrepid, concord, 300 (sign me up). It also states that the dakotas are going to get hemi attention too along with the new transmission which i believe they said was a beefy version of the 4E, i'm not sure though. At least give it a look.

They are also working on a new 5-speed manual just for the hemi as well, with car ratios not truck ratios. Supposedly something from Mercedies.
