I was up at the local Autozone and they have Mobil-1, bosch, AlDeco, and STP oil filters. Everyone says Fram sux supposidly and the Mobil-1 costs twice as much as the others...so i guess my question is are the other three brands any good. And if so which is best?

Not sure if it's STP or AC Delco, but look for the word doutch (sp?) I know it's a blue box, that's the same as the old Doutch Autozone filters. Did some testing in college with the gray doutch filters and they are a very nice filter. That's all I use, well until my next oil change when I start using synthetic.

Hope this helps

The AC-Delco filters place high in that filter rating test that's floating around the web. I'll see if I can find the link to it.

Jon, IMO use the AC filter-this is a few years of experiece talking between myself and my father-for the money they can't be beat! But, my favorite store to buy them at the best price (Wal Mart) has quit selling AC filters--or have they--check out the Super-Tech Wal Mart filters!! After looking these filters over I'm 99.9% sure they are being made by AC--sold under the Super-Tech name at a better price!

WIX filters are great. WIX also makes NAPA's better oil filters.

I was using AC but Wal-Mart quit selling them here, so I went to the Fram TG TG= TOUGH GUARD this is the next step up from the plane Fram. And these TG'S are 5.00 a piece, seem to work well in my 4.7.

I heard K&N are not worth the money but The Mobil 1 filters are good as well as the Purolator Pure One. And if you have a Intense Blue Dak the Pure One filter will color match (useless fact 154)

I was at the autopart store and the old man said that Puralator was one of the best. He agreed that fram was sh!t. Well I used the puralator and guess what... my truck still works. I didnt think it would start but it did. So I guess puralator is o.k. I dont think anyone here would notice if a micron of a micron of dirt went throught the filter. I still wont use fram because its made cheeply but I think most filters are all alike.
Thats my $1.50

FWIW I run Motorcraft FL-1A oil filters on my
wife's Grand Cherokee Limited w/5.2, my new
Quad Cab w/4.7 and on my '88lx 5.0 Mustang.

They're a bit taller than the Mopar #1090528
but work great. The FL-1A is actuall a
premium Purolator and is only like $3.25 at
the local AutoZone. Check the link Mark
posted above for more info.

Later,
Lemmers

If you are using synthetic oil and you are driving more than 5,000 miles between oil changes then I would buy the best oil filter that money can buy (AMSOIL Super Duty, Mobil1, K&N etc.)

If you are still using petroleum oil and changing it every 3,000 miles does it really matter what filter you are using?

Dr. D, it can make a difference due to poor construction quality, or some kind of additive in the filter. I use Mobil1 5w30 and the Mobil1 Filter as well, but that's just me.
