 Subject: 87 Dakota questions

I have the opportunity to buy a real clean 87 Dakota, 3.9, 4x4. New enngine and trans. was insalled 20K ago. How do these older Dakotas compare with the newer ones (95 and older)? Can one do the performance add ons such as headers and bigger exhaust, K&N filter, hotter ignition, etc. Also, do the 87's have TBI or are they carbarated ? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I've got a 87 Dakota too! There aren't many around, but I know that 87's are carbureted, and the 88 are fuel injected, and do you have an automatic in yours? I do and I want to convert it to a manual 5 speed.
