Subject: A500 tranny info needed, please help

Howdy all, I have a friend who has a '89 pickup with the A500 tranny. Is this basically a 904 with a overdrive bolted to the back? I haven't looked at it yet and haven't worked with an A500 before. How does the length compare to a 727? The tranny is toast and it's at least 4 weeks and $1,200 to get one so I was thinking of a 727 transplant. Any of you guys work with a A500 enough to know if it would be an easy swap?? I appreciate any help you can offer, thanks in advance!!
