What I find wrong is that your woman wants to talk all day, you listen, then you say one word about your dakota and they get this look on their face like "is that all you ever think about!"

LOL!!!!! You are SOOOOO right! This "woman's manual" that men keep hearing about must exist. Seems like both our ladies read from it! :)

If I say something about the Dak, then I get told that I am obsessed. same with anything else that I love talking about.

What I have learned:
Women talking about something alot = making good conversation.
Men talking about something alot = obsession, infatuation, insanity.......never hear the word "passion" used.

At least we can stand around in a drive way looking at a car with a beer in our hand and not look wierd. I have yet to see a woman pull that off! :)

P.S. If you don't understand what she says just smile and nod, works all the time :)

Dan, Yes I have had the TruckTec for about 8 months. seems decent, especially for the price. It doesn't get real cold here in Phoenix, I do notice that it IS a little harder to snap if I leave it undone for a day or 2. But I also have the end rails adjusted as far aprt as they will go. Plus the clamps for the side rails provide another place to hook a bungee if you need too.

Brian - thanks for your input. Good idea about the bungee supports too! Seems like not too many people have the snapless covers. Anyone want to weigh in on the snapless variety? Anyone?

Dan,
Gee, (LOL) You got alot of replies. The Downey SST's inverted snaps are basically snaps on the cover. They are self lubricating snaps. The rails are are tracks so the snaps can slide along the track. The cover does have same problems as other soft covers. All soft covers really don't shrink. They become less pliable in the cold. If I take off the cover in the cold, I just wait for the sun to shine on the cover to warm it up or a hair dryer. Good luck.

Dan, if it helps,I have a LeBra by saddleman soft cover, the frame clamps to the bed but it's snap-less,it has a poly lip that slips into a groove all the way around. It can be pulled back, rolled up,easy to put on and take off,and you can open the tailgate with it on.I've had no problems with leaks or weather, yes it's a little stiffer in the cold but not too bad.Cost about 175.00 I think from Pep Boys.
Hope this helps.

NJ - When you say the snaps slide along the track, does this make it easier to close compared to conventional snaps? Does it stay tight given that the snaps slide?

Alan - Does the snapless come undone at higher speeds or does it hold pretty well? You've had no problems stretching it back to close it on cold days? Where are you located and how cold does it get? I am in the northesast where the winters can get really cold.

Nobody has an Extang Tuff Tonno III/Saber?

Wow, Dan. Did you ever get alot of advice since I wrote last. Since a hardcover is out of the question I thought I could tell you the soft cover I bought was Freedom by Extang. If you're worried about strength and durability don't be. I've left snow on the cover that was up to the top of the cab for extra weight without hurting the aluminum rails or undoing any snaps. I don't mean soft snow that blew off when driving, I mean heavy wet snow that had to be shovelled off. The snaps in this cover are plastic in the rails and metal in the vinyl and I never had trouble with it except you get a little tired of doing up 100 or so snaps especially if you live in a cold climate like me. I still say buy one that has an adjustor at the back rail, and the one that has gas shocks to lift the whole thing up is the way to go. But for $300 Canadian you'll never kill the Freedom by Extang.

Dan,
The tracks have a top edge and bottom edge. The self lubricating plastic snaps on the cover can be placed anyway on the track with respect to cover. It's been a year now with all the snaps inplace, the cover is tight. I did ride w/o the rear bar to extend my bed for a couple of miles in the rain. The cover was secure but not recomended by the manufacturer (www.downeyproducts.com). I was just at their website. They have a new lift top design (LTD). It seems to work the same a hard top (pivoting up) and snaps like a soft top. Just some new options.

Dan-I live in Iowa where the weather changes from one minute to the next. Never had any problems with the velco. The only problem I had was with the latch. There was a plastic piece that broke and the dealer replaced it with a metal one. No questions asked. The whole cover including the material has a lifetime warranty. My neighboor came over the other night and like mine so well he decided to get one for his Ram and his son's truck.

I'm so glad to find people who think similar and have similar problems. My fiancee buys something virtually EVERY day from the mall, whether it be clothes, or CD's or what have you, and I have yet to see her really get anything that serves a true purpose. On the other hand, I can go try to buy something (most recent example is a combination tape player with CD changer controls, 10-disc CD changer, and CD discman for $200) and I catch hell for it. ???

Everyone loves their tonneaus. Doesn't make it easy for me. I guess whatever I buy should serve me well. I wish all of you could drive your trucks to my house so I could take a first hand look at them all. That would put things to rest! Oh well. Wishful thinking!

fourgivn1 - woman's manual page 212 paragraph 4. "My money is MY money and your money is MY money, so STOP spending MY money." I guess she just wants you to save your money to pay for the wedding expenses. She will try to justify it by saying "but honey....I buy a CD for $12 BUT YOU want to blow $200 for audio equipment?" Tell her - "listen baby, I was thinking of you the whole time. I know you like CDs since you buy them often. I was just trying to provide you with new equipment to play them on. Just thinking of your comfort level."
