Subject: Brake DUST....what was the solution?
IP: Logged

Message:
There was a question posted about what to do about brake dust a few weeks back. Can anyone tell me how that problem got solved (if at all). I installed chromed rims on my truck and the brake dust on my wheels is way more noticeble now than with the silver wheels. I really dislike dirty rims, can anyone help?

They sell plastic gusrds that go on the inside of your rims. I dont know how well they work being that I dont have them.

There is an aftermarket Dust Guard for many cars. It is the opinion of many that putting these on restrict air flow to the disks causing warpage.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a set of dust guards on my stock 15" wheels. They are called kleen wheels. I can't remember what catalog I found them in, but they are in a lot of Dodge related catalogs. They are vented aluminum disks that are painted semi-gloss black. They fit inside the rim and keep the brake dust from coming through the wheel. I have had them for a little over 10,000 miles, and they work well. I have had no issues with my brakes. After all, the dust shields are no different from hubcaps. The shields do have directional scoops cut into them for brake cooling. I believe I gave a ridiculous price for them, something like $80, but looking back at how much scrubbing I used to do, I think they are worth it.

Thank you guys for your input. I'll be looking for dust guards and give them a try.
