I purchased a new Ram in Sept 2001....it has about 4300 miles.....two weeks ago.....it failed to start...towed to Dealer by Roadside Assistance--it may be of interest that the driver of wrecker did not lock truck after he delivered it to dealer at 9 pm/he left keys in the truck---/who can you trust? The problem for not starting was a faulty security module ---yesterday--truck did not start---had it towed again..this time bad fuel pump...I am a disabled individual requiring oxygen--- I expressed my concern about being stranded ...I cannot depend on the Truck ----The dealer said that he would make it right/a new truck ....provided that I give him $8300. Dealer is Bill Butler, Warner Robins, GA - ask for Todd.....needless to say ----- I will never deal with this dealership again......how can I get rid of this lemon? Please help----- Suzanne

Suzanne,
I feel your pain. I have a 2001 Dak, SLT+, loaded that I have had incredible reliability problems with. So bad that I gave it to my daughter to take to college. She would only put about a thousand miles a year on it. Well, she left Texas with it, got as far as Atlanta on her way to S. Carolina, and it has been there ever since. It just quit running and they can't seem to make it run long enough to get off the lot. I guess this summer I am going to take a vacation to Atlanta and get rid of it. It's been an absolute joke. Sorry, I don't have any good news for you but I would get rid of it and buy anything but a Dodge- TOO MANY PROBLEMS.

That is really surprising actually. I've had absolutely no problems at all with my 2001 Dakota. It's been perfect since day one.
I do wonder though, why is the dealer even offering to get you another truck and have you pay for it? Are they acknowledging that it is a lemon? I would look through the lemon law booklet that came with your truck and see what options are available.
Talk to Mr. Butler if you need to. He is very personable. I would bet that he wouldn't want his dealership bad-mouthed due to a situation like yours.
By the way, I've dealt with B.B. service dept there in Warner Robins and have always had decent service. I never bought anything there though, I bought my Neon from Landmark Dodge in Atlanta.
Good luck.

part way throgh 3year right rear caliper piston cracks they are made out of ceramic! fluid leaks
caliper 184.22 pads 22.94 labor 85.00= 295.00 repair bill
new york state safety inspection failure
"evaprative emission fail" what ever that is

I used to drive those, but prefer the Dak.

The car is not a lemon until it has spent a significant time in the garage ( don't know what those #'s are right off ) and they have not been able to fix the problem. You can call your state attorney generl's office for info and check the info in your owner manuel for that. The dealer is basically offering u a trade in or something. Sounds like a bad deal to me unless you have that amount left on a lease or owe that amount still. Don't have enough info. One thing I have learned is that it pays to have an extended warranty as insurance and it has paid off for me, both with my 99' Dakota R/T bought new and with my 2001 Durango R/T bought used with 92,000 miles, that had the tranny go out after only 75 miles. I'm considering getting another for my Dak as it's extended warranty just expired, and even though it has only 43,000 miles on it. Some vehicles are good and some are bad - depends upon what day of the week it was made ( Mondays and Fridays generally have the worst incidence of repairs ) how it was maintained and driven, and luck! And that's what the warranty companies do - they gamble that you don't have problems. With the price of auto repairs, it has paid for me with the Durango. The policy cost $1300, and the tranny cost $1950 for a rebuild at Aamco ( dealer wanted $4650 ) Warranty company paid $1600 and me $350. So I've already come out ahead. And DONTBIDODGE, didn't your new car warranty cover those expenses for the 1st 3 yrs at least?

If it wasn't for all the auto tranny problems ALL
DC cars and trucks have, I'd buy used. Dealers
hide too many things from buyers. Their 101 point
inspection is a farce too!

Leasing looks better and better all the time.
Keep the junk no more than three years and dump
it for another. Lets face it, buying or leasing,
you're paying for one all the time anyway. Might
as well lease for three years and have bumper to
bumper warranty.

02 Dakota 4x4, 4.7, tow package, 35k. Nice truck
but I don't trust the tranny.. Seems to have a
mind of its own. Dealer says, dah!

Just my two cents worth.

I don't agree on leasing UNLESS it is a tax deduction as a business car/truck... You pay money up front or if you lease a car/truck that isn't selling good, nothing or little up front and higher monthly payments. your not made aware the payments are higher. but the worst thing is at the end of 3 years you walk away with absolutely nothing .You also have to pay for every ding or rock chiped window and anything else they can find and they go over it with a fine toothed comb. your money is gone. so is your truck/car. Buy or lease, you get the 3 year warranty. I see no advantage there. If you buy the truck/car, it's paid for in 3 to 5 years. My thoughts are, If it cost you 2000 a year in repairs, your still ahead by far. You can't finance one for this amount.and then again it might be one of those great ones that just never breaks down. Extended warranties are a big big money maker. Most people will never use it. The few that do has little effect on there profit. 100,000 miles goes by fast and your on your own again. Most autos have no major problems in that first 100,000. This is how I see it anyhow.

So many problems .... So little time

1993 cc auto v8 4x4. It has 129k on it and still runs strong. I could put 1 tranny in it per YEAR and still be way ahead financially. I do all the repair work, and i havent had anything really go wrong(knock on wood). Ill buy a newer vehicle eventually, but i will not buy brand new. A brand new vehicle drops value incredibly as soon as you turn the key and go off the lot. If you have any mechanical knowledge, buying used is way better to go. If your loaded and just trying to find ways to spend it, the buy new. or lease!

I used to think extended warranties were a rip off too. But my 99 Dak R/T only has 43,000 miles and had driveshaft fall off, AC compressor go out, intake mainifold had to be replaced, and rear end gears broke. The repairs cost way more than the cost of the policy. So for me it was a good deal. You pay more than that a year for car insurance, yet a great majority of the people never have an accident. Just depends on where you want to place your bets. lol Oh, and leasing definitely sucks!

I'm sorry for all your troubles with your trucks.

The way my life goes sometimes, I'm suprised this has not happened to me.

I ordered my 01, QC, 4.7, SLT, trailer towing, tire and handling, LSD, manual tranny and have had it ever since.

It now has ~112,000 miles. still on the second set of tires, third battery, and that's about it.

original brakes, etc.

We have some stringent yearly inspection laws here, it always passes no problem.

My Dak has been great! I often tow with it, drive it hard sometimes, and just enjoy driving it!

It has by far been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, etc. I'm 46 y/o.
