Ya, I guess daniel is right, if we are going to do something like this, we probably should start small (just dakotas) and then build it up.

i think syracuse is the best choice too, kinda centralized, easy enough for everyone to get to in a reasonable ammount of time. i wouldnt mind a MOPAR event, i'd have my uncle bring his 73 challenger r/t, man that thing can fly! nothin like a 440 under the hood!

Daniel,

Yeah i have a tonneau cover, I love it. I noticed some improved gas mileage and it keeps the snow out of the bed :). I live in a small city just outside of Albany called Watervliet.

I drive a 2001 Silver CC with a Dual Gibson catback, whiteface guages and indiglo pedals.

Dave - my email is dal1@cs.state.ny.us

Bert - What kind of cover do you have? So far I have it narrowed down to either the Extang Tuff Tonno III (snapless) or the SportMasters snap. I hear stories from both sides. People tell me they will never get a snap again because it's a pain to deal with in the winter. Then I went to Just For Trucks on Rt9 Mechanicville and spoke to the guy there. He said the snapless ones in the winter are problems to secure since you have to stretch them past the rails in order to lock them to the rails (J hook). He recommended the snap version. I am wondering if anyone has had the Extang Tuff Tonno III (or Saber) model for a while and how it is. Or if you have the snap, how bad is it really?

Watervliet. Not too far from me! I am in Bethelehem.

when i went to buy my tonno cover (extang classic platinum - snap down cover), i planned on getting the tuff tonno III model, but the guy at the off-road shop i go to said that every customer he sells a snapless tonno to, always comes back and complains about it, especially about moving it in the winter, its impossible. i am extremely happy with my snap down tonno cover, though i must confess it too is nearly impossible to move when it is cold out, though the snaps have a summer and winter setting which makes the cover more loose fitting in the winter for easier mobility. i highly recommend the extang classic platinum, even though its hard to move when its cold, its a great looking cover, has a 3 year warranty on the tarp, and i cant believe how hard it must be to move a snapless cover in the cold when its pretty hard to move a snap down cover. go with the classic platinum, i doubt u'll be disappointed

Thanks for your input Hank. Being from Buffalo, you know the temps that I am talking about. I was all set on the Extang Tuff Tonno III from reading all of the manufacturer's websites. However, I went to a truck accessories place around here and spoke to the owner. He told me the same thing. People complained about how they couldn't get the cover back on in the winter. He said he has one customer that pays him $20 every spring to put the cover back on for him. He told me the snapless look nicer but for functionality, go with the snaps. Then he said to ask people first before buying one. Nice that he wasn't pushy at all. He sells both the Extang Classic Platinum and the Sport Masters. He recommends the SportMasters. I looked at both of them (they had both displayed there) and the snaps on the SM look stronger. The fabric is stronger too. I am surprised since Extang has the reputation for reliability. The SM gives a 5yr warranty too and he will sell it to me $199 installed! I like the bows on the Extang better and also the back rail. Though I do like that the SM has a black frame. Wish I could combine the best features of both of them and make my own cover!!!

i agree the snapless design looks cleaner, just isnt too practical. 5 years and $199 sounds too good to pass up, i wouldve liked a black rail too, actually extang sells one called the BlackMax, but the rails and snaps are all plactic, looks cool, but theres no way it could take the abuse of a metal rail and snaps. i've grown to love the extang back rail that snaps in and out, its a great feature! i've never heard of sport master so i couldnt tell ya anything about them, but i paid $209 for my extang and had to install it myself (no big deal, went on in 20 mins, easiest mod i've done to date). and hey, if you ever invent your own cover from a combo of the 2, let me know, i'll buy one!

I have a snap on also, I agree with the others that during the cold it is difficult to get back on. I've had no problems so far and would recomend the snap-on.
