I have seen tow hooks rated at 10,00# for 10 bucks, that are susposedly universial. So then why is it my kind dealer said it would be $189 for MOPAR ones rated at 5,500#. Is there a problem with using cheaper ones?

I think you will find that the factory tow hooks come with mount brackets that mount to the frame. the universal tow hooks are for mounting on brush guards. See Tom Fawcett's Mopar tow hook install under maintenance, mods, and upgrads in the Dakota Mailing List.
