Subject: ABS kicking-in too early
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 99 Durango with 3 sensor ABS. I recently had the rear sensor fail with the usual ABS / Brake light and the Speedo not working under 20 mph. Not being a fan of ABS anyway I did not get around to changing the sensor until the Speedo became annoying several months later.
The truck was in need of front rotors anyway so I did the brakes and sensor at the same time. This fixed the lights for the ABS fail and the Speedo, a quick trip down a snowy road told me that the ABS was now functioning correctly.
The next day I noticed that at very low speed ( 3 mph or less ) under light breaking coming to a stop at a light, the ABS is coming on. If you keep breaking hard you can even feel the kick back when stopped. This kick back feels a lot slower than normal ABS about 1 pulse a second.
Anyone come across this before ?

I have an 02 qc 4x4 dak with just the rear abs and ever since I have owned the thing it has always had touchy brakes. the other night i was driving along about 50-55 and a light turned yellow and I had to apply pretty hard pressure but not enough for the abs to kick in. i have had it looked at by a local shop and they say nothing is wrong with the brakes.

I have a '03 2WD 4.7 manual, and the SAME EXACT PROBLEM as off-road-russ. I have a Fabtech 3" lift up front with nothing done to the back. 32" BFG mudds on 16" wheels (stock size -but diferent rims).
Brake pedal feels great at all speeds, untll I stop at a light -just a little faster than i would if my grandma was in the truck. The pedal goes straight to the flore! The truck still slows down and stops, but it feels like I have no control on breaking.
I lifted the truck 3 months after driving off the lot, never had the problem before the lift.
Since I didn't lift the back, it has to be the tires. I don't think the "pendulum" effect would apply since the front is higher
i'm going to look into the "CAB"
-thanx Halo3
