Ok I would like to hear from you Dakota sport owners.
My question is. When you wax your truck do you also wax the black painted surfaces on the bumpers? I know that waxing the black surfaces would increase the shine but those surfaces are painted a semi gloss black and it seems it would be counter productive to wax that area.
Also tell me if you have had any experience with Meguiars products and how you like them.
Thanks George

I have a black Dakota Sports Plus and I have waxed the lower part of the bumper, but are you referring to the top area of the bumper? I use Armor All...

I like Meguiar. I have Meguiar's Classic Gold wax and it works great. One thing I learned that when applying wax, you should rub the applicator back and forth, but not circular. Anyone know why?

You rub the wax back and forth because when wax dries, there will be miniature lines in the wax (as well as miniature scratches in the clear coat if the wax is abrasive or there is any dust on the applicating pad). A circular scratch (or circle dried in the wax) will be visible from a 360-degree angle whereas a line will be barely visible at all.

To answer the original question -- wax everything that is painted. If it's that rubbery trim stuff (like the back of the sideview mirrors) then don't wax it. I wax my wheel wells, my bumpers, my door jambs, under my hood, around my front grill...you get the picture.

Meguiar's is good stuff. I have the Gold Class wax, the quick-detailer spray, and the carnuba spray wax. The gold class is top of the line, but it's a bit tough to get off. I use that probably once every 3 months -- I have a black truck so I use the quick-detailer spray every time I wash - unless I use a carnuba wax or spray.

Maybe you guys can help? I was installing a tool box in my bed and made a couple of scratches in the bed rails. They are covered up by the tool chest but i still know that they are there. They are small enought that i think i can buff and wax them out, hopefully. I was wondering about a clay bar. I know nothing about them. What they do or how to use them. If you can point me in the right direction i would be very gratefull. Thankyou. Also I have been getting my towels at sams. The towels they have are perfect for my truck. My color is dark garnet red so dust and such shows easily.

Ok lemme see if I can help most of you with your questions. I have my own detailing business and use Meguiars. I swear by their products. As far as waxing the black surfaces i would recommend a black chrome polish I think Mothers makes one. As far as the clay bar is considered it is works very good at removing contaminants from paint such as light acid rain. For light scratches I would highly recommend the Dual Action Cleaner Polish by Meguairs it is the profesional series (tan bottles), which I have seen at most Auto Supply outlets. Best thing for black paint is a wax called Liquid Ebony. Hope this helps. Let me know if you guys need more help.
