I ordered my 2001 Dakota CC sport+ with the upgraded tape player so that I got the 8 Infinity speakers but plan to take out the tape player and put in an after market cd player. My question is, there are 6 speakers but after market cd players only list power to 4 speakers. Will I be able to get power to all 6?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

The Infinity system has an amp which sends the power to all six speakers. When you install your reciever make sure that you get a wire harness for the hook-ups. It's alot easier and is a cleaner install, without it you will void your electrical system warranty. Make sure that your amp wire on the deck is hooked up to the wire harness. Other wise all you will hear are your tweeters which don't run through the amp. Test out your stereo before putting your dash back together.

I learned my lesson the hard way, after I put everything together. I had to take everything apart to hook up ONE wire for the amp.

FYI, the Infinity amp is a 4 channel amp. The 5th and 6th speakers are actually tweeters which have their own crossover attached to their backs. They are wired off of the front mains. So, you shouldn't have any problems if you can find a way to use the factory wiring, AND bypass the Infinity amp. The amp will not like the line level output of an aftermarket stereo (too weak), and will not be able to handle the speaker level output of one either (too high). You could run new wire from the new stereo to the amp area, then tap the factory stereo wiring from there.
G'luck!

No problem. Just like Anthony said, go to any parts store and buy the wiring harness. Wire that to the aftermarket deck, then you just uplug the harness from the factory deck and plug it into the harness on the new deck. Mine sounds great coming out of the factory infinities. It made a huge difference over the stock tape player. Now you just have to choose your deck! Enjoy.

I have the bottom of the barrel stereo in my Dak.
The question I have is Are the speakers the same in my truck as they are in the trucks with the good systems? I know I only have 4 and the others have 6. Im talking about wattage and that. Reason is, I would like to swap out the deck and leave the speaker being that it looks like a nightmare to change the ones in the rear(clubcab)

to answer Hojos ? no the speakers are not the same from the base system to the infinity. But even so you will need to replace the speakers, they were not inmind with 25w or better systems there were in mind for 11w system. you can run them for a little time, I did it to about 2 months for the first one to get blown.

The door speakers are 6 and 1/2's and the rear speakers are 4". I went with boston acoutics rally series seperates. They sound awesome. That would be your best bet if you want the best sound out of your dakota.

I just found out the hard way about the amp as well. I thought the deck was bad. Nope just factory amp. I used the factory wireing. I just found the factory amp (passenger kickpanel) and by passed the amp using bullet connectors. I will reattach with bullet connectors when I sell the truck.

I recently tried to install a aftermarket cd player in a jeep with an infinity system. I bought the wireing harness and hooked everything up. The player worked perfectly, but there was no sound comming from the speakers? The only thing I'm thinking is that the amp in the infinity speakers needs a constant 12vlts to power the speakers. The wiring diagram says to hook up the attena moter lead to power amp, but this doesn't run all the time. would the answer be to connect the wire for the infinity system straight to power lead from the unit? are there any possible negative repercussions? Thanks

You have to hook the stock infinity amp power lead to a 12v that is on when the Head unit is on. Sometimes the power antenna wont work for this because if the CD is playing, the antenna goes down, or doesnt work. Just dont connect the amp to a constant 12v or youll drain your battery when the vehicle is not in use.

On most aftermarket decks there will be a blue remote turn-on lead that will turn the amp on and off with the Head unit. This is sometimes the same as the power antenna lead.
