It seems like the dakotas that experience the most problems are the early genIII's like 98's with the 5.2 or 3.9 from looking at all the posts. is it just me or what?

Actully if you look at the ratings the 98 year was best so far for reliablity in the GenIII. Dont know about 2001 though. Mine has been fine besides a slight shifting problem. Thanks

No probs with my 98 5.2l 5spd. The flaw in your reasoning is that you seldom hear people praising thier products, that are working as anticipated, in comparison to those who are unhappy that thier stuff is not working.

Even the considerable population of this board probably makes up only a small percentage of total owners.

Middy.

My 01 3.9 is a piece of crap. I should have bought a Ford, or Toyota, or Chevy, or Nissan, or a Geo Metro for that matter.

I have 4,300 miles on my truck and my truck has spent a total of 11 full days in the shop getting fixed/waiting for parts and about 30 days of me driving it broken waiting for parts.

But hey...at least it's helping to keep the miles down -- At this rate, in 2004, my 3 year old truck will have about 12,000 miles on it.

worker, job sites can be hard on vehicles. my truck always gets me there(no parking on the street for me). 60 to 106.7(being longest to date) miles to work, one way. never any problems with this truck, yes trans started to slip couple weeks ago. being fixed as i post.
truck has had very hard working life, to be expected, no tranny can take my punishment and live as long as this one did. more than pleased!

oh i lied! the first day the CD player locked up!
went back to dealer, none in stock, they pulled one from an other truck to mine. about 20 min.
