It was love at first sight when I went to the dealer located in LA to pick up my Dakota with my dad.

The Dakota was sitting right in the middle of the crowded 4 door cars and SUVs. I didn't even bother looking at the other vehicles. My eyes was targeting right at the smooth black clearcoat Dakota. While I was waiting for dad to sign the papers (I'm 21 by the way), I was staring at the Dakota. I wanted to feel the coat, and man, did I feel the coat!

There were some dirt dust but that didn't bother me much (I'll have find some good 'duster' that won't scratch the clear coat). I have to say, the rack and pinion steering feels really sensitive compared to the other cars I've driven, the Honda Odyssey, Dodge Caravan, and Mitsibishi Eclipse--all these vehicles are owned by other members in my family.

I'm impressed with it so far... no problems yet. Hopefully.

The only downside is that it gets quite bumpy inside, but hey, it's a truck, right?

Now, I'm waiting for a car alarm to be installed, and to purchase the bed liner.

Something tells me that I'm gonna put a lot of energy into it to maintain the new car look and feel.

Here is the link to some of the pictures that I took today:

http://www.pbase.com/honorerdieu/my_dakota

Here are the specs:

2002 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4X2
3.55 Axle Ratio
3.9L Engine
Sports Plus Package (or 24C)
Tire and Handling, Deluxe, etc etc.
CD player
255/65 OWL tires

You guys are gonna hear a lot from me, because I'm gonna be asking tons of question to maintain my Dakota.

Your gonna love it! Had to get my dad to sign on mine as well, I was 22.

Seriously consider the spray-on bedliner! I have one, got it from Zeibart, and it ROCKS!

Good luck, I've had mine two years and so far no woman. Guess its a trade off. If I had a woman, I would not be able to afford the Dak.
ANd a woman doesn't do well hunting nor does she handle snow as well as the Dak.
Be leary of warped rotors on the brakes. There are many posts here to testify to that shortcoming. GOod news is that by replacing the junk Mexican rotors with home brewed USA made stuff cures that deficiency!

Congrats! All I have ever owned is dakotas. I am enjoying my 2002 the most. My wife dumped her sonoma for a 2002 quad cab and really enjoys it. We couldn't pass up the low interest rates. We are actually paying less per month now than we did with our old trucks. Plus, I got cash back from the my trade in.

I hope you enjoy your new truck as much as I enjoy mine. My 2001 QC is my first NEW!!! car or truck. After you break the truck in I would recomend Mobile one 15W50 and mobile one filter changed every 7000 miles. I have had great results with this combination. Prior to useing the synthetic filter I used this oil with any regualr filter I could find and also had good results. I was suprised to that my local Dodge dealer also recomends 15W50 Mobile 1 in all of the push rod engines. P.S. This is my first dodge; so far I like it.

I'm not sure that getting a new truck will score you a woman directly but if you're proud of your truck it will boost your confidence and brighten your smile wich will most likely get you a better chance. I had a woman then I bought my truck now I have no woman. hahah But trust me the truck had nothing to do with anything.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I have been quite busy with my truck. Yesterday, I cleaned the interior a bit, followed by washing my car, polishing the clear coat, and waxing it with high quality product.

What's next is to get a car alarm installed, since I only have the keyless Sentry system and I feel that's not enough. Anyone have any good suggestions? I'm not looking for a car alarm with bells and whistles. Just a security system good enough to get my car stolen.

Then, I'll need to get bed liner installed. I think I'll go with the spray on type.

The Roll-N-Cover sure looks attractive... but I'm a tight budget. Argghh!

Hope everyone is keeping their Dakotas in top shape.

Tim™

P.S. I don't live in the LA area. Just outside of Bakersfield, dpkerns.

Check out www.kcovers.com It's a great product at a great price , compared to the relatively expensive Roll'n Lock product.
