Subject: Am I Paying Too MUCH?

Message:
I just got back from my local "Truck N America". I was quoted the following prices for the following items:

Covermaster Fiberglass Tonneau Cover - $749 painted and installed

Tubular Brush Guard (black) - $399 installed

Tubular Nerf Bars (black) - $289 installed

I have a Silver 2002 QC 4x4 with less than 200 miles on it. What do you think?

All replies appreciated.

Century, ARE, Covermaster, Leer, the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on....you get my point.

I have 2 dealers in my area...one (that is 30 miles away) sells ARE and the other (which is less than 2 miles away) sells covermaster.

How should I go about choosing which lid is right for me?

A.R.E has a matching line on their lid. It matchcs the line in the hood. I bought the century because it was cheaper and we neede 2 of them. I don't know anything about covermaster or the other brands. My advice- take a look at what each manufacturer has to offer and decide from there.

I called the ARE dealer. The ARE has a LIFETIME warranty on paint, whereas the Covermaster only has a 5 year on paint. The price for the ARE is $660 painted and installed, whereas the Covermaster is $749. (both locations I can get a $20 off)

I got an ARE put on my 2001 CC Dakota. I am very pleased with it. Like Graphite said, the lines match the hood and the thing sits just right on the bed, not too high and not the low profile i don't like. I got mine painted and installed for $690. That is without the headliner and the remote entry system that is available. You can check out my website for pics of it.

Zute, that pic was taken from Northern Ohio. However, I got the tonneau cover installed in Indiana as that is where I am currently going to school. You can go to www.4are.com to find the location of an ARE dealer closest to you. Good luck!

Thanks...I found a dealer 30 miles away...I'm gonna drive out there sometime this week and order the lid. $640 painted and installed seems like a good deal to me.

Zute,
640 does sound like a very good deal for an ARE. I thought I was practically stealing the thing for $690 so you are doing well. I know you will enjoy the lid, i haven't regretted shelling out the money for it at all. Good luck.

It's taken me a while to decide on a lid...soft cover, fold cover, hard shell...so many choices!

I figured the best bet is to get something that locks, and since I dont often haul a ton of shyte around, I can make the rather small bed of the quad cab into a giant trunk.

I'll go check em out, but so far..I'm leaning towards the ARE and will probably order one, once I see em.

Zute,
Congrats on the purchase. I know you will like the ARE. I thought i would pass along that at my dealership, it took them approx. 1 1/2 hours to install it. Not sure if they worked on it the whole time, but that is what they told me. I went next door and ordered a pizza while I waited. Just wanted to let you know so you have some idea of what to expect.

Bed covers aren't bad as long as they come off and your bed gets used every once in a while.
